Allocate everyone a number of tons of CO2 every year and everything they buy will have the supply CO2 taken off the ration, people with money will suddenly find lots of ways to help save the planet.
Kinda already exists, but in the world of industry:
https://climate.ec.europa.eu/eu-action/ ... -eu-ets_en

The theory is that it is an incentive to reduce your carbon emissions and sell remaining rights. If you want to produce more carbon, you buy in the secondary market.

Is it effective? Fuck knows.
It isn't.

There are a myriad of different 'standards' for a companies 'greeness'. Some are a fair attempt, some are crap. Then there are the secondary markets, some sellers are honest and fair, some are sharks. They plant 1m trees, and walk away. And 5 years later, when all those trees have died from unsuitable conditions and lack of care, and after the land has been sold 3 times to cover the tracks, they sell another 1m trees in the same place. Rinse and repeat, or even just say you planted the trees, who is checking?

The good news is that the International Financial Reporting Standards body is in the process of setting up some agreed international standards that should bring some order into the chaos. Like all international standards it is a slow, painful process. However it has 1 good thing going for it, the CJ sprog is Programme Director for the process.

Got to start somewhere, but if you think a few people being inconvenienced is more important than saving the world then it's not worth bothering with.
OK, you start. I'll join in later.

I have no solution to that. Sorry.

It's a shame you don't live somewhere that's nice, then you wouldn't have to fly anywhere, I feel sorry for you.

It’s not the bill that causes the problems.

I do, I just flew somewhere even nicer. :)

To be fair, it was a 15 minute flight from Lands End to Scilly, so not too many kittens were harmed.

Too many people now (and organisations, stonewall etc) are normalising using children for their sexual gratification and fetishes. It's f*king alarming.

However, if you feel that it is abuse then you are surely duty bound to report it. You’re standing around doing nothing whilst you genuinely believe that sexual abuse of children is going on. In my book that makes you as bad as the abuser.
This is like a script.

The simplest explanation is the most likely. They weren't paying proper attention, there was a distraction or no one was watching, next time they looked he wasn't there. Without a body, there's no way of telling but exhaustion, cramp, ghost net or some other jetsam, sucked into the prop, sharks or abduction by aliens...

Either way it's a damned shame. I blame the support crew. They should have had eyes on at all times. Clearly they didn't.

Could also just be they genuinely lost sight of him, I suspect you don't drive the support boat right on top of the person in case you bump into them? Might have been a bit wavy etc. so they didn't see him go under and of course didn't see him not come up again either.

I'm slightly surprised Twitter didn't comment as it's probably their evidence that was used, maybe they don't like the Guardian much.

After the recent spate of mass shootings we now have two things to blame it on:

1, If a white guy did the shooting then it's obviously white supremacy.

2, If a black guy did it, it must be mental health issues.

I don't think they have considered the implications of their deductions..

oh wait, three:
If a Taiwanese Chinaman shoots a bunch of mainland Chinese then it's racism (according to the charges filed in Orange County, Ca a few weeks ago)
