Oil Filter Change?
I've always just tightened by hand, but the manual says 2 FULL turns.
Wow. That seems excessive.
Maybe that's just the OEM ones. My local shop always used Hi Flow filters.
That's what I bought yesterday.
Waddya reckon?

My GSXS is exactly the same. 2 full turns or 20NM. Which seems well OTT to me. I've no idea how tight mine are as both services so far were done by the dealer. If I was doing the service I'd stick to hand tight as I've seen what happens when they are over tightened. I've never had a filter come loose.

I did hand tight. About one and quarter turn. Last bit was very tight.
Saw vids on Hiflo filters say one turn, ish.

Suzuki like a tight oil filter, I suspect it goes back to the 1985 GSXR750 which had a nasty habit of the oil filter coming undone, I used to put a jubilee clip round the oil filter to stop it coming undone on my one.

You’ll be fine with tightening as tight as you can by hand, Fresh oil smeared on the seal as well. Just check it for any leaks after a few uses.
If you were paranoid about it you could either use the jubilee clip method or use Lockwire which iirc the HiFlo racing filters come with the end pre-drilled for accepting Lockwire.

Hand tight, it'll always seem like it tightened up some more if you try to take it off. I must have changed a bazillion oil filters over the years, all tightened by hand (I don't have anything else), and all of them have required a strap / chain to get them off for the next change.

Exactly this, with my job I do an obscene amount of filters from oil to hydraulic and I always tighten them by hand, next time round they are a nightmare to remove. The strap I have is awesome though.DefTrap wrote: ↑Thu Jun 29, 2023 3:13 pm Hand tight, it'll always seem like it tightened up some more if you try to take it off. Yeah. Me too. Was worried by what the manual says.DefTrap wrote: ↑Thu Jun 29, 2023 3:13 pm Hand tight, it'll always seem like it tightened up some more if you try to take it off.
