Hideout’s kangaroo gear is impressively light — their ‘roo trousers feel more lightweight than Kevlar jeans. I tried on a pair of Hideout’s kangaroo pants, but the price made me jumpy

Their site doesn't seem to mention which animal the trousers were made from?

Ah,so I take it the roo skin jobbies are only available made to measure. That's a pity since they are distant from me and I'd like to see what the bags look like too.

I've got two sets of Crowtree leathers that need altering, as they appear to have unaccountably shrunk. Neglect them for years and they shrink, apparently...

I've approached a couple of places that advertise leather clothing modifications, but as soon as I mention Crowtree they back off saying that their machinery can't cope. So I guess Hideout leathers are my best bet for alterations.

My 'real' leathers are Crowtree - Mrs. D is a native of Louth, where Crowtree were based, which is a big factor in why I ended up with them.

I got my old Alpinestars jacket modded at Hideout a couple of years ago. They took the padding out, slimmed it down a bit and removed the 'baggyness' from where the padding no longer was. It's my normal day-to-day jacket now. Really can't fault the workmanship.

I was chatting to the owner (Kate?) about Crowtree. Unsurprisingly she knew the owner (Alec?) after a fashion, must be a small world after all. She had good things to say about 'em. I get the sense Hideout would be able to work on Crowtree stuff.

I really fancy some hideout MTM textiles, but they're ££££.

And yes, very tough. When racing in the Steelie series I lost the front at the end of the old Snetteron back straight (it was wet, but a dry line, and I forgot I wasn't on wets when I tried to out brake someone as we came under the bridge). I slid on my arse forever, but apart from scuffing they were fine. I even had a lovely exterior print of my back protector (also Crowtree), after that - it was like a brass rubbing outline on my lethers

Undoubtedly, Hideout can make ’roo leathers in off-the-shelf sizes, too. I recommend bouncing an email over to them (info@hideout-leather.co.uk) to ask. Also, if you want anything tweaked — e.g. large pockets or a small pouch — you can email or phone them for a chat regarding pricing, etc. They can’t measure you but can do most other stuff by phone or email. You risk the fit if you haven’t tried on the leathers, but that’s something to discuss with them.

It's the heavy duty steel coat hanger they come with which really hammers home this point

I forgot the best thing about my Crowtree jacket, which I usually mention every time. The pockets are backwards! The zips are on the middle side, rather than the 'outside', so you reach across your abdomen to put your right hand in your left pocket and vice versa. Genius! Brilliant idea for a stiff, heavy leather jacket.

They're also mesh lined so (assuming you've not got anything in them) you can open them up as 'wind scoops' on hot days.

I was there a couple of weeks ago, getting measured for a sports suit. The website is good fun as your able to design your own.
Kate talked me through the whole process and advised where necessary. I'll be back there ina month for the final measuring.

Been using the Rukka Coriace suit most days now, only for commuting 3/4 days a week, 40 miles each way.

It's very comfortable, more so that my Rukka Nivala, Dainese and Spidi riding jeans - none of these have been altered to the extent of the Coriace but then they didn't need to be. The leather is extremely supple. It's reassuringly heavy and it's warm too in the current temps - no need for heated kit most days.

The biggest surprise with the Coriace is that even after Hideout has pulled it apart and stitched it back together again it's still waterproof. Today was an hour long commute on dual carriageways in the rain with lots of spray from other vehicles and the only damp patch was from my buff tracking the water down the back of my neck. Everything else was bone dry, including my bawbag and stomach.

In fairness to Kate at Hideout, she said it should still be waterproof but I'm still pleasantly surprised and happy!

I really like the look of some of the Hideout textiles but 650 - 1000 on a jacket for a FWB seems a lot. But then again it'll probably be the only jacket I then need till I'm too old to ride so probably an investment.

In my experience — provided you ask politely and soon after receiving the garment — Kate will alter it again free of charge to make it fit well.
