It was coming from Southampton which is 90 miles away, I had an update saying that it arrived at Bedford at 18:30 which is 120 miles in the wrong direction.

Portchester Castle in Portsmouth...an originally Roman building/complex...has grafitti covering about 2000 years on it! I imagine nearly all buildings of similar age do.

When I was doing some work in an old castle years ago, there was some graffiti carved into a wall from the 17th century, it was a name and a picture (IIRC) a violin. Someone probably went crackers when they first saw it, but now they have a protective glass over it and show it off to be wondered at.
Yeah, one of the towers guarding the port at La Rochelle was used for prisoners of war in the 1700s. The pow graffiti is actually really interesting.

The Colosseum has over 6 million visitors each year. If they all scratched their names, there'd be nothing left of the place :D

If the Italians had looked after it a bit better and it was still able to be used for what it was built for I doubt there'd be as much graffiti. ;)

Scumbags who leave beer cans on beach. Especially when there are recycling bins 10 meters away.

Amazes me too. Especially when dogs get banned from beaches, but people do this!

There's a chambered cairn on Mainland, Orkney, Maeshowe, built the better part of 5000 years ago. The Vikings carved runes into some of the stones about a 1000 years ago. One set of runes, high up, reads 'This is really high up' or something similar. Humans, unimaginative vandals since forever.

Apparently they found some graffiti daubed on the wall of a Broch in the Orkneys that said "I am a gay, signed William Wallace"

Just found out that, despite my winter boss telling me that he planned to pay more than minimum wage because he felt that people worked better if they felt they were earning a proper wage, he did only pay me minimum wage. It just looked better because of the amount of over time I did

Yes yes. It was my fault because I didn't check, but I trusted him and really hit the ground running with the job so didn't have much time to do translations and ask questions outside the actual job. Stupid. My own fault but FFS!!

I did seriously work over and above because I did think he valued his employees. I did change that view by the end of the season, but having just read (and translated!) my summer contract that I KNOW is minimum wage because he told me it would be, it's paying me more than the winter contract base rate!! (Only cos SMIC/minimum wage has gone up since 1st May). Google confirmed.

So, 100% need to work for someone else for the next winter season!! :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack:
