Have you looked at the dictionary definition of 'Tory'? It's moved on a bit since James II and/or the American Revolution.

3. Stuff to do with James II
4. Stuff to do with Irish robbers who preyed on English settlers in the 17c
5. Stuff to do with the American Revolution
