Re: GSXS 1000 - Mofo's Gixxus
Surprised myself how fresh I felt after my 152 mile ride to the Essex wilds yesterday in the heat. I followed it up by a 2 mile walk into town and a few pints, dinner in the glorious 28c heat we had.
This morning I feel totally drained
Still was a great ride, and good to meet Le Fromage Grande. Good practice to as hopefully my Yeovil/ride the coast trip will go ahead next Sunday. Praying for dry weather! But have 4 potential dates so hopefully one will pan out. I think that'll be 100-130 miles a day.
Screen was pretty much perfect. It's lifted the wind to my shoulders from my chest. No extra turbulence and makes 80-85 mph a fair bit more comfortable which will be well handy as I'm gonna probably smash out the first part of the trip to Yeovil down the M25/M4 to Hungerford area before switching to As and Bs.

It was hot yesterday and going across the top of Colchester wasn't my greatest riding decision, so I'm not surprised you're knackered, all that bacon must have dehydrated you as well

Colchester roads were worse than normal yesterday, there had been an accident so people were diverting all ways......Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Sun Jun 11, 2023 11:36 am It was hot yesterday and going across the top of Colchester wasn't my greatest riding decision, so I'm not surprised you're knackered, all that bacon must have dehydrated you as well

Re: GSXS 1000 - Mofo's Gixxus
There was a head on collision between two cars at Raydon which blocked the road from East Bergholt to Hadleigh, I ended up riding back up to Ipswich to get round it to get to Mannigtree as I didn't fancy taking to the goat tracks.v8-powered wrote: ↑Sun Jun 11, 2023 11:46 amColchester roads were worse than normal yesterday, there had been an accident so people were diverting all ways......Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Sun Jun 11, 2023 11:36 am It was hot yesterday and going across the top of Colchester wasn't my greatest riding decision, so I'm not surprised you're knackered, all that bacon must have dehydrated you as well

Re: GSXS 1000 - Mofo's Gixxus
Yeah by that point of the day under 50 mph felt hot. Such a shame all those nice A roads are 40s!! I'm guessing cos idiots have head on crashes on them Pretty much all 40s from Manningtree till just past Sudbury.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Sun Jun 11, 2023 11:36 am It was hot yesterday and going across the top of Colchester wasn't my greatest riding decision, so I'm not surprised you're knackered, all that bacon must have dehydrated you as well
I also told myself I'd stop at the next pub for a water and a coke. Could I find one! Either shut??? or nothing. I ended up stopping at Tesco in Saffron Walden as hadn't come across anything on the route before then. I knew of a few past there but was gasping by that point.

Last time I cam along that road I ended up getting a bottle of Vimto from the Co Op in Clare, there's not much along there, and the road surface from New England to Saffron Walden is really horrible, not a road I'd choose to use, which is a shame because 25 years ago it was a superb road.

Re: GSXS 1000 - Mofo's Gixxus
I thought LFG might ride passed if I had the top box on
To be fair even if I had water it'd been warm so still prefer cold from a pub/shop.

You can get a bottle of water under the seat on the 750, look cool and stay cool.

Re: GSXS 1000 - Mofo's Gixxus
If the weather holds I'll be heading to Yeovil Sunday morning for a 3 day ride so that's when the top box really makes sense. Waterproof, secure and easy. Think I'll leave it on for the coast run too as I can leave my lid and gloves in it whilst I fill my face with ice cream and paddle my toes

Well you have somewhere to carry your waterproofs in case you need them.

Re: GSXS 1000 - Mofo's Gixxus
Currently there is a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms and flash flooding on Sunday I keep checking the weather and every time I do it changes.
I reckon I might get lucky and not see much rain or spend 3 days riding in constant showers.
Gonna leave my decision till Sat evening but reckon I'll be punting it off. There were 4 dates my Uncle and I could do so not the end of the world if I don't do it this weekend. Just annoying as off the back of 2 perfect weeks and good again from Wednesday
I've decided on a route though. On the way down I want to make up some distance so will do M25, M3 and then A30 looks not too bad from there to Yeovil.
For the ride gonna do Yeovil, Lyme Regis, West Bay, Weymouth and loop back to Yeovil on the twisties.
So yeah, sort of ready to go but reckon I won't be this weekend
