Simon Crafar explained it differently. He reckoned MM ran slightly wide on purpose to give himself a better line to cut back in behind Marini and get better slipstream on the straight, the negative of doing that is that a bit more lean angle is required on the cut back.
Yeah, I heard that as well, but to me it didn't quite tally. MM wasn't running 'slightly wide on purpose' he was right out on the marbles and the onboard camera showed him narrowly missing Marini's back end. But I'm not about to argue with Simon Crafar as he brings an insight that few can match.
Whatever the reason, MM's do or die riding style is yielding him a big fat null points from every full length race he's contested this season.

Another DNF for MM93. Yes, he got out onto the dirty part of the track, but the reason he had to do that was to avoid running into the back of Marini. So not machine error, but rider error. And then he has the nerve to strike a Jesus pose for the cameras as if the bike had betrayed him.

Not one of the most interesting races I've ever seen, MotoGP and WSB seem to be purely for the benefit of Ducati at the moment.
Explain it how you like, he was going too fast and too wide, given that he'd already had a couple of front end slides, probably not his best decision.
Just looked on Crash.Net and it seems like it was a machine-induced error after all:
“But I had a big shaking - already in the first lap I had a big locking on turn 10 that I nearly crashed and I didn't understand why. Similar to Portimao [when Marquez collided with Miguel Oliveira, injuring them both].
“Then I had another locking on that [final] turn on the brakes. I went wide, and that was when I made my mistake. I didn't lean more than usual, but it was more dirty out of the line and I lost the front.”
So that was why he found himself out on the dirty part of the track, not because he was trying a different line.

So he is perfect after all, phew, I can breath a sigh of relief, and next time I push the front end hard enough to slide I'll blame the bike, even though it's warned me twice that I've gone beyond it's limit.

Not at all. In fact I think he's a bit of an (incredibly talented) dickhead for expecting a different result when doing the same thing over and over again. But at least I can now understand the mechanics of what caused him to crash, is all.
If I thought there was something wrong with the bike I might just go to the garage and find someone to shout at. If I thought I'd made a Horlicks of something I might just go and hide in my motorhome and shout at myself.
Doubt is not a pleasant condition.
But certainty is an absurd one.

I think MM crashed cos he won't accept running around in 10th place which is probably where the Honda's best is at.
Taka is nowhere, Rins is busted in hospital, and Mir is busted. The bike is a pile of shite. Rins and Mir were podium contenders and one was a WC. Now Mir can't manage a race. I reckon MM could ride to the bikes limits and finish 10th but I think he'd rather retire then do that. Does that make him stupid? Maybe. I wonder if he thinks the minute he settles for 10th he is finished and there's probably something in that.
Unless Honda and Yamaha are prepared to really up their game they may as well not bother. It's embarrassing now.
Fabio is being more sensible than MM in managing to finish more races but he's nowhere so it doesn't really matter anyway. And even Fabio is crashing for the same reasons as MM, having to make up time on the brakes. Trying to make up time on Pecco and Miller etc on the brakes is a fools errand. But it's that or give up.
MM himself said that his and the bikes 'real' potential is 5th to 7th place, but he's not prepared to settle for that. And so he keeps crashing; it's not if he's going to crash, it's when. This time he crashed on his own, with no-one else involved. Previously other riders haven't been so lucky - for example he's pretty much fucked Miguel Oliveira's season. He needs to have a word with himself.
Mir out of action after having more crashes so far this year than in all his time with Suzuki,Nakagami in and around the top ten-ish,Pol's miserable season last year. This is where the Honda is at,even champions struggle.
MM is an awesome talent and the bike has wrecked his body time after time, yet he's still not one to settle for Nakagami's race position finishes. Some balls.
I really hope he goes somewhere else if the Honda is still the worst bike at the end of 2024. If he's still in one piece by then.
