My preference for black visors is more necessity than fashion as the residual after effects of 2 bouts of Bells Palsy over the years has left me with limited movement on the right side of my face. As a result in any bright light my right eye doesnt "squint" like everyone elses does and can actually cause headaches if prolonged in bright light. I doubt they would let me off on a medical exemption but worth a go if i ever end up in Cheshire or anywhere else that decides to waste resources on that endeavour as i carry a spare clear or clear goggles if i expect to be out after dark or in shitty weather
That's a bit of a bugger. Sorry to hear that
I have adapted to it over the years, first bout was aged 18, took almost 2 years to get back full movement, 2nd bout was mid 30's but a lot worse and got back about 65-70% movement on the right side. Most people dont notice it at all and just think "ugly fucker"
but i am hugely aware of it, self conscious of it and even when i laugh the right side of my mouth doesnt move and i need to be careful drinking anything in case it spills
When i was a marshal i met Chris Stalker Walker (WSB and BSB rider) who also had it mid 30's and we traded tales on coping with it while riding as sweat on a hot day runs into an eye and the slightest wind draught can cause the eye to suddenly stream
On the Welsh trip a couple of weeks ago the likes of Abel, MAC and KHH even made comment when the weather was poor on the way over as i put on a clear ..."you never wear a clear visor" ....i swapped it back to a black as soon as the mist cleared
I do have a pair of Uvex safety glasses that would take an impact but they aren’t dark enough for me and I only use them when I have the strimmer on in the garden
