MTB bar width

Post by Mr Moofo »

I have been riding around on a bike with 800mm bars and finally come to the conclusion I hate it.
Most of the bars I have on bikes are 780 - and on some of the tracks I do that is still a little wide.

I understand the concept of great leverage when you are doing the Red Bull Rampage , or coming down the side of the Eiger - but does it really make any difference to us mortals pootling about the byways of this green and pleasant land?

Thinking of chopping mine down to 760 mm

Interesting that your average Pro Enduro racer comes in about 770.

Keep us posted, I've trimmed a few times but currently closer to 790-800 at a guess.

I've got Yorkshireman's arms so 760mm is about as wide as I go, also find tying shoelaces a bit more of a struggle these days so tend to go for a bar with a bit of rise too

You don't need to cut them to try just move everything inboard and see what it feels like. Assuming you have lock on grips.
