ohh I'm "Flying North" and visiting the Peaks

Post by MingtheMerciless »

The 4 Southern E-Bike *ankas are having a long weekend in the Peaks.

This should be fun, I haven't been up there for years, last time was 2016! and the time before that was 2013 when I brought my Rocky Mountain Element with a 120mm of travel and 26" wheels and managed to bounce to the bottom of Jacobs Ladder using more than all the travel to 10th place (I may have slipped in the standings somewhat .......).😂

Pictures and video to follow.

Any suggestions on tire pressures for an 11st rider on an e-bike running Maxxis DHF's front and rear?

DD carcass or standard?

Inserts or not?

If standard carcass and no inserts I'd say as hard as you can get them.....

My mate knows a bit of the area so were based in Castleton, Cave Dale descent keeps being mentioned, were also doing Mam Tor/Edale and Jacobs Ladder and we're getting a local to show us round LadyBower.

Any pub recommendations in Castleton?

Afraid not, tend to drive/cycle through Castleton on the way to other places as it's Grockley AF other than in the depths of winter...

I also bought the Peaks OS map OL1 and the digital/mobile download and it paid dividends today for route choice and bailout options after my mates rear mech incident.

Utterly fooked, 32 odd miles, 4700ft of climbing and the sun got to us and my mate suggested that we ride UP Jacobs’s Ladder. Bikes are broken, we’re broken, found some crazy descents and one climb we will return to as a descent, my body is shattered and all 4 bikes are carrying issues. Mine broke a spoke when I hit something very hard at Warp 9.9 with Scotty screaming in my head! Not a straight ally rim in the house and carbon wheel may well need a new rim as the spoke nipple is sitting at a decidedly odd angle. Oh and apparently I live up to my name as the Evil properly throws stones at people as I go passed them.😂

Going up Jacob's ladder is a proper challenge! I love it.

The Peaks are hard on wheels and pedals and other exposed parts.

And you're right about kicking the rocks up, I was following @porter_jamie down a rock strewn descent into Hayfield and a rock he kicked up smashed the Bosch controller off my bars!

So after a bad night last night (family issues for me and hay fever for my driver) two of us went straight home and the other two went via Cannock where a local mate was showing them round. Mate 1 binned it and feels like he's been on the loosing side in a fight with a Bandersnatch and Local Mate then binned it and has snapped his arm at his elbow and is getting a Ti screw and wires upgrade tomorrow..........

He who runs away.......

I'm impressed with your speed down potato alley, though that may explain te heavy toll on people and bikes.

My descent was a lot more leisurely :)
