Busy night at work, lots of engineering work to deal with and a rather worrying failure of our new system.
Slept a bit, now a zombie on the sofa but I think I'm going to have to mow the lawn.
"Of all the stories you told me, which ones were true and which ones weren't?"
"My dear Doctor, they're all true."
"Even the lies?"
"Especially the lies."

I went to the tip this afternoon and found a working smartphone in one of the skips.

Curiously it's exactly the same make and model as the one I lost there this morning.

Spent most of the day walking around Oxford Island. Plenty of hides to watch the birds and plenty of birds to be watched. Lovely place on a warm, sunny day.

Yorick wrote: Mon May 15, 2023 4:57 pm Swam 600m today. Not bad for first time in a big pool in 5 years.
Aimed for 400 but kept going.
Had to stop at 600m as eyes hurting. Bloody agony now :(
Got to 600m quite easily today. Was aiming for 700m but felt good so pushed on to 800m.
Might have managed a bit more but didn't want to raise the bar too high for next time ;)

According to big clock I was doing about 1m 12s per pair of 25m lengths.
Last pair I gave it some and sprinted and splashed to 58s.

Then i was knackered :D
Upped it to 1,000m today and was quite easy.
Much more comfortable now I have a decent mask to stop my eyes stinging.

Only problem was shortness of breath. Always been a good swimmer but perhaps not getting enough oxygen in by sideways breathing. Might get a snorkel and see if that helps.

My arms feel as if they've done nothing. 4 or 5 hours enduro every week has certainly beefed them up :D
1,200m today. Yee hah.

Used a snorkel which made it so much easier.
Cut resting periods by 50% as wasn't gasping for air.
Made my arms ache a bit as they weren't getting as much rest :D

Had an X-ray which shows the holes left in the bone from the screws being taken out  surgeon is happy

Sadly. I can’t walk with the one crutch without a LOT of pain. Not helped by having to use the crutch on the same side as the operation. Most of the nurses on duty today seem to regard patients as an irritation (might just be me, the main place I’ve met racism is in hospitals - not always or lots, but sometimes it’s definitely a different attitude because I’m not French). But it’s meant I got seriously stressed as I tried walking after seeing the surgeon and couldn’t but the nurse said I had to leave tomorrow anyway FFS

It’s fucking hard dealing with all this sort of stuff solo and in a non native language. Wasn’t easy dealing with the shoulder stuff in the uk, at least here the two surgeons I have for knee and shoulder are kind and speak english with me (not all surgeons have been the same, not so fussed about language but they aren’t all kind!!). The chat with the surgeon this morning was the first English conversation I’ve had since Thursday afternoon 🤣🤣

I speak French pretty well (from the compliments from anyone not a nurse on the ward!!) and understand fairly well. So it isn’t totally difficult. But it’s just stressful having fight the battles for meds, understanding etc.

But. The food hasn’t been bad so far!! Although the lady with breakfast came and asked, what would you like? Well, I don’t know what the options are, soooo ???

Happy weekend all xx

Back from walking the dog. She had a fabulous time, running into clear water and bouncing about with a border collie. She is now having a nap. Got home, made lunch with some peppers, cucumber, olives, feta cheese, beetroot, a splash of cider vinegar and virgin olive oil, stuffed into fresh bread and pressed in the panini maker. Lovely lunch accompanied by a nice G&T and a double espresso. Now relaxing and will clean up the kitchen later on today.

I want to make some. I often have left over pastry when making chicken pies, I just fill it with cheese and bake them. But I want to make some pasties too.
