All I could think of was,if I had decided to go by the Blade rider and ride at my usual pace, the outcome may have been very different.
Maybe not. There's a possibility that by choosing to ride at his pace, you mentally went into low power mode and didn't do some of the 'what if?' planning that you would have usually done. So your reaction time would have been slower. Also, your braking would have been affected by the presence of the other bike and that you couldn't be sure what he would do.
Yeah, there's a definite element of those things at work. I'd have been horrified to rear end another bike.

Might have got there before the buses snarled up the road? ;)
Cool idea. Necessary faster to beat accidents.
Less time out in the danger.

Trade off is possibly more danger within that time ;)

I find that is the best way to describe counter steering without the confusing instruction to "turn right to go left". Just use your shoulder to steer you where you want to go.
I’ve never heard that instruction. It’s always been ‘push right to turn right’, which seems fairly straightforward.

The latest version, and probably lots of earlier ones, of the IAM’s Roadcraft has a diagram showing a bike approaching a right hand bend. The advice in a little box is, at this point, ‘counter steer left’.

Eh?
Makes sense to me. To turn right you push the right hand bar which turns the wheel to the left, hence counter steer to the left.

It’s the phrase “counter steer left” that’s the problem and will simply >> confusion. They just mean “steer left”.

I can assure that yesterday I spent hours positive steering :)
My arms ached to prove it.

Only time counter steered was on the long fast bends when I had the back end hanging out chucking crap up at the lads behind me :D

Only wish I could slide the back end on tarmac :(

And this why people steer clear (sorry :D ) of SS ...

It really is as simple as:
Press left, go left
Press quickly, lean quickly
Press longer, lean further
Then relax the pressure

I had a go at this "consciously counter steering" malarkey, didn't like it. I'd rather lean into the bend and let the bike do the steering. It's only to get the initial tip. 🤷‍♂️

Whatever you do, never counter steer the whole bend. 😁👍

It's still you doing it ;)

Yup. You lean the bike. When it's over enough, take the pressure off and the front wheel will turn the side it's leaning. Then you're into the corner.

Sortof ;)

If its a tightening spiral, you'll need to keep leaning further over (unless you slow down and left gravity lean it a bit further). Even on a constant radius, if you accelerate then you'll need to kean further.
