Did one of the other members tell you that TP?

Out of all the bikes I've had, I kept that for quite a long time. Getting on for a year I think!

This is precisely what worries me. My experience with Buells and Harley Davidson services have scarred me.

I don’t know if I’ve got the strength to go through all of that again. I’m hoping for reliability.

It’s this one I have my eye on.

Thoughts? It’s 20 years old and when I did a check on it earlier, it came up with ‘miles 10k less now than in….‘. Assuming that’s the Bobber Bros custom point though.

It's a hard tail with a seat with no padding. He's selling it because it gave him piles.

The straight through pipes probably made him deaf too.

...and then he died of embarrassment when the exhaust wrap was pointed out to him.

I really wouldn't. Old ones need maintaining by someone who knows what they're doing. Get a 48 that's had some upgrades done. E.G. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134578115421 ... R674_MWKYg

I imagine the seller of that one TP needs the money for a new phone/camera. Talk about 'I see through a glass, darkly'...I thought my eyes were failing when I looked at the pix. :geek:

Reliability, I've heard nothing bad about the M8 motors, some early issues on the tourer's but that's been sorted now, no idea on the pre-M8 stuff.

Parts, they were ace pre-covid, get anything you want within a week no bother, post covid they're a shit show, but aftermarket non OEM parts aren't a problem.

Have you considered an older British bike, pre-1950's? Similar sort of look but way, way cooler.
Here is mine...
Yours is proper cool, but i wonder if the Harley would be WAY more exciting in terms of grunt and performance ? I rode a mates Street Bob and give it it's due, the motor has a grunt.... I hated it, but the motor pulled hard. How does the Rudge perform in that context ?

Probably about as well as you'd like with those Brakes!

Bonnie is the same...she pulls pretty hard for an old bike, maybe 50bhp on a good day, but it's 'made up for' by the comparatively shite brakes and tyres.

No suspension on a bike with our roads, fuck that! Plus that riding position look hellish. Looks pretty cool but I wouldn't want to ride it further than a local coffee shop. If you like it though then it's a cool looking thing. But I wouldn't.

Personally I think it's as cool as penguin piss. Agree probably a bastard to ride after more than 15mins though....

Potter's Rudge is great too - my old man had one back in the day, got a photo of him somewhere looking cool on it

In terms of handling a 50s Brit bike will run rings round a harley (especially an older one, or a lowrered one).

In terms of engine, the HD will be gruntier low down, which should be bloody obvious, its a massive v-twin, the only comparable Brit bike would be a Vincent Rapide/Shadow, most Brit bikes are less than 750, the vast majority are 500 singles/twins or 650 twins. So the HD will have more torque, however it won't be as nice at speed.

HDs are good for cruising in a straight line on well maintained roads, and touring vast distances slowly, with frequent stops. That's about it.

They're also good for lookin' cool, which is the job most often asked of them.
