Bike logos, badges, etc.

Post by Screwdriver »

I have recently created a set of logos very similar to some motorcycle designs for a local bike shop.

If anything here looks of interest. I'd be happy to print some off and pop in the post. Pocket money only at the moment, not a business obviously considering the copyright/trademark issues.

Here are some examples:

Image

These were all "original copies" :obscene-birdiedoublered: made by me on Sketchup so I can very easily tweak them into alternate designs, specific scales, your name, your registration number etc if you want to stick something on your bike.

The above range in size from 60mm small, 120mm medium and 240x240mm maximum large. To stop me losing money, I'd be asking £3-£5 for the small ones depending on number of colours, circa £10 for the mediums and name that tune for the biggies.

Look on Etsy/eBay for examples of stuff like this and prices are eye watering. But I want to get away from copyright issues and piracy (!) for a long term business, not short term gains.

Custom is king! If you want to tweak the design or even make up a different sign, I can do it....

Image

Image

Multiple colour prints, the more colours there are, the more difficult they get! I cheat by printing single colour layers like a liquorish all sort (hmm, maybe I should...) so that the printer isn't swapping "inks" every layer.

Image

Mug for scale and speaking of mugs, this next one has to be circa £50. I honestly don't know yet who would be getting mugged:

Image

That's 240mm square and five colours (it's also still only "virtual"). My printer only takes four at a time but there are ways and means (via manual intervention). It's a very quick printer if required though I generally set it to standard speed not "ludicrous" which I kid you not, is the parameter setting on the machine. Bambu Labs Carbon X1, been wanting one for ages. Now I have it, I need to do something with it.

Currently the thing I am doing is showing people what it can do without it costing me too much. So if you'd like something that's great, I'll be happy to help. If you think you might know someone or somewhere else that might like something, that's even better.

Example files with approximate pricing.

Image

3d scan print (not my model). This size circa 125mm £15. Up to 240mm max dimension, more like £40.

Einstein/monotiles

Image

Image

Weird infinite tiling, need at least 30 off, at least 3 colour, ideally with some mirrored. Less that £1 each depending on numbers.

Image

£15 (only with the correct yellow border which I didn't picture before sending off to its happy owner)

Engineering design.

Image
Image

Simple clip on torch clip with tripod mounting magnetic connection. Never lose a torch again. £10-£20 custom size, custom magnet...

Image

Vape device docking station... £10

Image

Small part widget replacement. If I can copy it, I can print it.

Image

Fully articulated JWST 40:1 scale model. Err. £££'s.

Image

All sorts of weird and wonderful camera brackets, tripod mounts, GoPro, iPhone you name it.

Anyhow, that's just a taste of what you can do with 3d prints. Look on Thingiverse of Printables for inspiration. If anything takes your fancy, let me know. I won't advertise printing other peoples stuff but if you send me a .STL file, I'll print it for you...

The most useful feature is fixing, repairing, replacing unobtainable parts or custom applications like fitting the wrong vacuum accessory to the right adapter, or slotting a Makita battery into an Aldi charger.

I will be interested to hear what people think of the thumbnail pricing, too much, too little. Also interested to hear any ideas regards what might form the basis of a good business plan. I'm just advertising this service to see if I can get some momentum going and see if I can make some pocket money. Would appreciate any potential leads or recommendations.

In case anyone may be wondering why I am "stuck" in front of a computer typing random gibberish, this is what I am actually doing:

Image

For a local bike shop. These dinner plate size signs take several hours each and unless you want to find random bogeys buried into those lovely clean faces, it does require some level of babysitting to stop odd bits of the wrong colour to drop into the molten plastic.

Image

I don't own the copyright but these are all my own work, generated in Sketchup. This is as big as I can go for a single print though they could literally be printed as tall as they are wide. I can manipulate, reconfigure, colourise, anything to make a custom design. Borg cube anyone...

This mornings effort:

Image

Finished the RedBull design, the physical structure anyway which is more complex than you might assume.

Image

Printing it now. No rest for the wicked.

I had some unobtanium (well they ARE available as OE but they are crap, hence why I was looking for some, and also quite pricey) aircon knobs for my car printed by some guy on eBay. Given that the parts are quite tiny and need to be spot-on perfect for a click-fit on tiny little catches, I was surprised how accurate they could be printed. There's certainly a market for this sorta thing.

Cool. Show me what you're after either link or description or rough sketch. I'll knock something up and we take it from there.

Sizes are 234mm square or up to 256mm in one dimension, a bit more for skinny prints across the diagonal (the Bambu has an annoying forbidden corner for the filament cut off actuator). Thickness is typically 1.2mm per layer which looks/feels about right to me @ just over 100g of plastic per print. Larger prints are possible by jigsawing or otherwise connecting.

Since it's custom, you can have your own name/avatar/alias/<whatever> incorporated into the design.

Here's a quick hack. Will check dimensions before I'm happy with it.

Speaking of subtleties, I am a little bit disappointed with this print.

Image

Looks OK in this <edited!> photo but in real life, just looks a bit cheap.

I think the red on yellow makes the red too orangy.

I was going to buy a badge and paint it in the Rasta colours but since found it has been done so looking for some kind of spin on the badge. I was thinking Convoy but probably to big a word to be noticeable. Even my initials RWA But something colourful but keeping inline with the LDV logo. Rough size is 8" wide and 4.5 deep. I can get exact dimensions later

Sounds like a fun idea. Probably best to go to pm though I'd be happy to share: make up an art board. Lots of images you like to give me a sort of theme, you can just fire off links to images or post images to give a flavour for what you're after. Scribble some sketches, tell me some ideas, (ask ChatGPT!) we end up with a mish mash of stuff.

I'll do some designs then fit that into the badge see how you like it. Then when you're happy, print it up.

I do everything in PETG so it's tough UV stable, durable , water/chemical resistant.

UV resistant is obviously important so yea only other criteria would be fitting it. I was thinking of just using Sikaflex as that sticks like shite to a blanket and soaks up vibration . Mil is coming up from the Manc tomorrow for the W/E so i shall get proper dimensions for the start of the week when she goes home and rattle some ideas up

Epoxy, UHB tape, nano tape (amazing stuff), all sorts of options. I would probably lean towards UHB (genuine 3M stuff of course).

I could even put embedded nuts/all thread onto the back if that works (depends on dimensions).
