Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
Dog walking is certainly something that makes me happy. After 6 years of varying stages of disability, my new knees allow me to go back out and enjoy walking my dogs again!

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
I don't frequent the Brit bars, but sometimes I fancy some proper pub grub.
One boozer has new owners and after a few afternoon drinkies, I fancied some home cooking
It was shite. I told the new owner on messenger to help her out
Frank discussion.
She invited me to have a free meal, so I took her up on it.
Just had the same food and it was million times better. So my comments helped.
Barman just told me, the owner said that my beer is free if I give a good review on Facebook.
Hmm. Yorkshireman. Free beer

Back in the pool for the first time since last summer.
I only managed 10 lengths (small pool) before my shoulder started smarting. Let's try and get 12 lengths next time !

My eyes
Worn specs for driving for years, but recently they've improved to the point I don't need them anymore.
Other day I was on front steps putting helmet on for enduro ride.
Put specs on and realised they made no difference. Tried lifting them up and down and bugger all change.
Still need them at night though.
And just threaded a needle so all perfect.
I almost paid for lasering before we left UK.

New solar powered pond fountain and filter installed (after I broke the old one trying to take it apart to clean).

"My dear Doctor, they're all true."
"Even the lies?"

As you get older the eye muscles weaken which usually means distance vision improves but close vision deteriorates. I wore driving glasses 20 years ago but don't need them now...but I do need +2s for reading most of the time. It's unusual for close vision to improve though.Jody wrote: ↑Sat May 06, 2023 8:51 amAny Idea why?Yorick wrote: ↑Fri May 05, 2023 1:45 pm My eyes

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
I have a 2 bedroom flat in Cornwall that I've had rented to the same tenant for maybe 10 years. I've never put her rent up as she's a good tenant and I didn't want to rock the boat. I am very aware of all the reports in the press about how rents are going up and I was aware that maybe I was missing out ?
Well the tenant just gave me notice that she's leaving. I'm currently thinking that I get someone in, spend maybe £2000 making it nice again and then I think I should be able to charge £600 pcm, it's still cheap and it's an improvement on the £450 I'm currently getting !

I was gonna remind you about the EPC requirement changes, but it seems they've been moved back to 2028 now

I bought myself a magic mushroom grow kit. I was a little sceptical, but 2 weeks after activating the kit. They are now growing so fast I'm shocked!
Harvest in maybe a week, get them dried, then its party time

Two toasted crumpets, buttered, with a poached egg on each one. It's almost as if the holes were designed to catch and hold the oozy yolk....

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
Finding a Youtube channel presented by an American who is:
- Seemingly informed about his subject matter
- Doesn't shout
- Doesn't begin each video with 'Hey, you guys!'
Who knew such a thing existed....

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
Just had a good pal round for a cuppa. She's an estate agent and got round to house values in this area.
She dropped it in that our villa has doubled in value in the 7 years we've had it. Blimey. We got it cheap and have spent a fair bit doing it up.
We're not gonna ever sell it hopefully and my nephew is gonna inherit a few bob

What are the inheritance taxes like there?Yorick wrote: ↑Fri May 19, 2023 12:50 pm Just had a good pal round for a cuppa. She's an estate agent and got round to house values in this area.

I want to leave my apartment to my niece and nephew but in France, because they are not direct relatives, the tax would be 50% (I think it's actually 60%) Whilst my apartment has almost doubled (and will be worth more when I actually finish it's renovation) I'd have to have an insurance policy to cover the tax so the kids could keep the apartment

It's not really for me, but might be worth checking incase the Spanish are as medieval as the French - your nephew might have to sell rather than use xYorick wrote: ↑Fri May 19, 2023 3:22 pmNot sure really.
