Who else does a big shaft .??? On a trip its a win win.
Indeed, I took a small tin of lube with me on one Euro trip, after two days of rain and 800 miles I was out of lube and the chain was a proper state (one of the reason I bought the GS was cos of the cardan).
So what Dern really needs, if he doesn't want a beemer or an adventure bike, is one of them brand new Guzzi V100 Mandellos.
I bet its a fantastic mile muncher. The DCT takes a bit of getting used to, but once you have its so effortless. To change down quickly, you dont have to whack the throttle right open, just a quick prod of the thumb on the - button. It all becomes 2nd nature very quickly, as does using the different rider modes. I only ever used sport around town.
Price to change insurance is £55 for the remaining 8 months. Of this £35 is admin (a lot imo) and that's including letting them know about the accident on the aprilia which has to be recorded as a fault claim until it's resolved. I'm going to move it to the multibike policy when this policy ends I think.
I truly am in old man territory now both in terms of bikes and insurance costs
Yup my insurances have been pretty good last decade really. On my last older bike, an R6, I think I was down to something like £80 fully comp. The GSXS was £140 this year I think.

You know you're getting old when the insurance is less that the road tax...
£20 I pay for my car tax, £100 odd for the bike I do 2-3k miles a year on
Ooh, that's just made me think - are we allowed to grumble about EV drivers now who 'don't even bloody well pay road tax' the way people do about cyclists?

I don't want another adventure bike. As far adventure bikes go the 1190 is excellent.
Have you had a 'gentleman's conveyance' type GT/tourer before? For the sort of trip you did last weekend they're Obvs, if you want to scratch on country lanes they're rather limited but if, as you do, you can have more than one bike there are times you just go 'right, this is a job for the starship'. You can cover big miles on anything (as many delight in telling us) but doing it on something designed for the job and stuffing your gear in 3 big watertight boxes, not worrying about chain lube, weather etc etc is quite liberating. Goldwings and K12LTs are probably a step too far (!) but the GT type of bike is really nice to have in the garage.
Look forward to the test ride report.
Doubt is not a pleasant condition.
But certainty is an absurd one.

I’ve had a blackbird which I didn’t like much because it was a shit one I bought cheap but mainly because the stretch to the bars was weird. I also had a gpz1100e1 that was superb at distance stuff and I liked it very much indeed. I also had a triumph trophy 900 that was very good I guess but also incredibly boring.
It has just occurred to me that when I had the gpz I also had a Zx6r and I treated them both in against a fireblade because I got annoyed that I didn’t have the zx6r when I got wherever I was going.
