I've also go an 1170 1982ish Kawasaki which rides very differently, it's all torque and grunt, maximum power is about 100bhp at 8500rpm and it has a heavy crank so high revs aren't a sensible option.

Z1 crank was 40lb. Gave a mate in Cambridge a lift one day, had my 900 parked arse to the kerb & the road surface had a ridiculous crown to it, like a hill-start. He jumps on, I pull away & away we go.
We get where ever we were going & he says "My bike ('85 VF750) cant do that"
Me: Do what?
Mate: "I was looking over your shoulder when we left, you pulled away at about 1300rpm"

Some of it is perception. Buyers have been fed the line that twins have more torque/grunt than a 'peaky' in line four. Depending on which apples and oranges are being compared,this is quite often untrue,especially when you factor in things like gearing. I'm not even going to mention 'character'.

It really just depends on what you like to ride and what you like the sound of. It's good to have choice in all areas,not just outright performance.

If subtracting cylinders and adding cubes really delivered a better engine, we'd all be riding around on 3 litre singles

Foggy owes his post 93 career entirely to the 916, the year he was on the RC45 he was 4th, he couldn't get back on a Ducati fast enough.

Indeed! But the problem was it was the 916 that took him up to the elite WSBK level, take that part of the equation away and he was still bloody good but not championship level. Kockisnski did it on the RC45 but that ties into my pet theory that GP riders are just that little bit better.
