Kaoko ‘cruise control’ clamp

Post by dern »

Effective in that it’ll hold the throttle where you want it once you have the technique down. Easy to fit.

In practice though it’s a flawed idea. Your bike will obviously accelerate and decelerate on a constant throttle with hills, wind and add you pass trucks on the motorway.

It’s vaguely useful if you need to give your ride hand a test and flex but as a cruise control mechanism it’s an expensive waste of money.

It's certainly not true cruise control but handy for giving yourself a rest, as you say. I lucked out and got one off ebay for something daft like £4 inc. post, which I'm happy with (!), wouldn't have bought one at retail price.

I use the built in cruise on my GS a lot more than I thought I would, it's great for seeing how far you can ride no handed and checking that you've zipped all your pockets up.

It even brakes going down hill to maintain the same speed.

Had one on the ZZR1400. Made the Peage fun.

I've got something similar made by Wunderlich on my GSA and share your thoughts. In some regards the Wunderlich version is worse because the knurls/serrations to roll the lock on are not deep or pronounced enough. I've switched to a wrist cramp buster like @Skub posted which is significantly easier to use.

I've also got cheapo ones of these to try out which are simply a variation on on the resistance/grip theme:
