It isn't banned in local government, (dunno about MPs) but there are residency requirements I think. It seems his own party got cross because he hasn't resigned from Ordsall. I was just reading about it in my copy of that beacon of right wing libertarianism, The Spectator. '..the election of one Lib Dem Councillor - Chris Twells - came as a shock even to the candidate: he was already a councillor in Salford and had been listed as a 'paper candidate' 160 miles away on the grounds his party had no chance of success'.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Sat May 13, 2023 1:15 pm That's not something I'd thought about before. I suppose its not technically banned.
Can you be an MP for two places at once?
(It is the Deputy PMs turf after all).
So the locals would rather vote for a moonlighting 'paper candidate' that can't have done much doorstepping than they would a local Tory! If he'd done what he said he would and stood down in Ordsall/Salford I guess that would have been the end of it...unless there's some jiggery pokery over residential qualifications.
