Hawker?

Post by Wossname »

Prompted by the Bwana birthday thread, I see that Hawker hasn’t been on here since last August. He was coping with big problems after his pushbike crash. Anybody know how he is, or if we should be concerned?

I've just mailed Hawker - prompted by this, I realised I haven't seen him on FB for a long time. Hopefully he'll reply

I spoke with 'Editor' (ex VD and TRC) because I knew he had helped Julian (Hawker) regarding publishing his books. Ed got back to me today and it's not good news,I'm afraid.

From Julian's wife.

"He has been in hospital since last year. Had a large seizure a week ago and is presently in ICU, Lincoln. He is waking up and I go in daily".

"Post serious head injury/ coma with complications even back then. I dunno-they can do marvellous things but significant parts of neurology/ neurochemistry are not fully understood".

I'll 2nd that.

If in doubt, get in touch. - I have recently learnt this with one of my best friends who've I known since we were 14 (almost half a century).
We spoke in the winter and he wanted to buy my 1200 Monster but was in no rush. He offered to send me full payment in advance which I refused as I wanted to being it out of hibernation and give it a check over before delivering it.
He then went off grid - I knew he was going over to France - his wife is french and they spend a lot of time there and he's recently sold his business and retired so I though nothing of it for a month or so. a few more Messenger messages later and I became concerned and dropped his wife a note.
Next thing I get a call to say he's in Hospital, had and MtB accident in Spain, broke his neck and is on a ventilator, tetraplegic with little hope of recovery.

Stay in touch and make the most of friendships, they can end so quickly..

Damn. Gutted :( :( :( He was so very positive about his recovery, but always with that element of 'bloody lucky to have had an awesome consultant/surgeon'.

Wishing him well for sure xxx

Not sure this is the thread - but good subject for a new one. I suspect most of us are trying to keep positive about both Hawker and Slowsider here
