From rivet counting online pictures and a few reviews, there's that, bolt on rear pegs, 4 pot brakes, and improved fuel injection. And some extra black paint.

OMG OMG OMG
The seller of the first bike just got back to me. The first buyer couldn't afford the insurance, so I get a second bite at it.
Mine! Woohoo!

As I understand from the Honda importer they have to decide whether to buy a container full of a certain type of bike, then when that box arrives they have to sell them, ideally for retail but eventually if it proves unpopular then for whatever they can get, this is how I got a deal on a two year old brand new cb300r. Could be the Yamaha importer (actually I think it's the same lot) decided against bringing that model in!
I did wonder if they might appear there. Is it possible to buy a bike on the mainland and ship it in? Or are there punitive import duties?

The original had a detuned Thundercat/FZR600 lump, this one has the detuned R6 engine. I doubt they share a single component!
Correct that the XJ6 is a modded R6. Quite a few changes including the cylinder head I believe.
