Rider modes, do you use them?

TC on mine is just too obtrusive.
On high setting it's like riding a 500. It's not dynamic. It seems preset.
Even on about 3 or 4 it cuts in when accelerating hard. Hot tyres on hot roads can handle all the power, thanks very much.
Never used it after first few rides.
My wrist is very experienced and better than most TC systems.

I generally have the TC in 1 because the orange light that comes on when it's switched off annoys me, if it feels a bit slippery, I put it in 3

I found that, when it was off I kept freaking out wondering what the light was. I'd then go 'Oh yeah TC light' and be happy before 15 mins later thinking 'What's that warning light'. Like a bloody goldfish. So I turned it back on.

Tried 1 first, then 2. Didn't seem to make any appreciable difference so went with the extra safety net.

The difference between 1 and 2 on mine is small, it'll wheelie about an inch (briefly) under hard acceleration in 1 and not at all in 2, with it off it's like riding a street fightered GSXR750, wheelies if you crack the throttle open in a low gear.

In 2 on mine the front floats a little with the bars shimmying but no higher. Now I'm more used to the bike I'm gonna try it off now and again as I suspect it'll pick the front up easy. Like when I accelerated over a humpback bridge in 2nd without much throttle at all and the front stayed at the height of the crest for a good 15-20ft last year when I had it off. I spend most of my time on tight b roads with shit surfaces though so with my skill level sees me sticking it back on cos I'm a wuss.

The previous S1000RR bikes you had to have what was called the slick chip fitted which would give you slick mode and also the ability to switch abs and traction fully off. I had this on the gen 1.

On this bike it just has to be specced with the ride mode pro.

Our work S1000RR's back in 2010 came with the slick chip. Considering we had 1200 Bandits and VFR800 prior to their arrival, they were out of this world. Nice to see there isn't that much visual difference in them, although I did like the different shaped headlights on the Gen 1.

I'd love another RC8R out here for those same reasons. No electronic aids at all to switch off. The Street Triple does OK though, again, no "rider" aids on that.

The only damage to the road surfaces here seem to be on the lanes up to the orange groves, caused by the lorries.

Had no rain here for over 100 days, so roads might be a bit slippery when it does.

When I was instructing, many of the other lads had fancy TC. But when we went to play, they had no real advantage. Maybe a tiny bit out of hairpins, but I pulled it back round super fast stuff like the drag up to McCleans and exiting Clearways.

I worked many times with Hodgson, McKenzie, Whitham, Plater etc.
They said they turned off all the TC when they went for a play. Too intrusive.

Ain't that the truth. I think the roads are in the worst state I've ever seen. There are some genuine risks to life and limb if you are caught out.
