Rider modes, do you use them?

I didn't bother with them on the mt09 and don't bother with them on the Hyper either. To me, unless you're in sport mode it just feels like there's something wrong with the bike as the other modes tend to reduce the power in one way or another. Should I appreciate them more, or do others feel the same?

Two up I use 'Road' for the softer throttle response, doesn't take the pillion by surprise. On my own I use 'Dynamic', unless I want to wheelie, then I use 'Enduro Pro'. I'd need the bumming hat before I ever considered 'Rain' mode.

It's the only bike I've had with modes.

In my Ovlov I use 'Eco' all the time, which is why I averaged 54mpg on my commute home tonight in a 2 tonne car.

Had them on the K12 (but they were just suspension settings). The 'comfort' setting made me feel seasick, the second setting was OK but once it was put in 'Sport' on a Flash Tour it stayed there. It just felt like that was how the bike was supposed to be

The preload button was though, solo, 2-up, 2+luggage etc.

Rain mode on the ZH2 is a bit pointless, just twist the throttle less. Never put it in sport as I like the TC and anti wheelie where they are thank you very much!

In the GSXR1000 they were all too intrusive. Even the ABS sapped some braking power.
Turned it all off. But can't bypass ABS

Solo gets std and tc1
Dont like the throttle response in A mode.
Perhaps I'm too used to carbs

On the beemer I have it in ride mode pro settings which means I can tailor it to how I want.

Usually it’s full power with anti wheelie switched off, engine brake is usually set to 2 which is the equivalent as what it is in the race setting, traction set to 1 but sometimes to 2 depending on temps etc. Abs is set for race as well but if you want you can switch it fully off.

Do you have to plug in a 'dongle' (hidden under the seat) to deactivate the ABS completely like on the GS, I assume it's a Euro standard thing that the user has to physically make a decision to do it, rather than it be a software option?

No I can do it via the dash or the buttons on the switchgear.

I think, on my GS the only way to completely disable the ABS is in Enduro Pro mode, which is only available if you plug a hardware dongle in to the wiring loom (it's only a resistor).

With ABS being one of the requirements of the latest Euro standards I assumed it was a use this dongle and invalidate the Euro rating, etc...

The previous S1000RR bikes you had to have what was called the slick chip fitted which would give you slick mode and also the ability to switch abs and traction fully off. I had this on the gen 1.

On this bike it just has to be specced with the ride mode pro.

I don't have any modes as I am a riding god and use me ( highly experienced) right wrist as my modes init.

I have taken to leave TC in 2 as 3 it cuts in lots but in 2 it doesn't really come on and I'd rather have the safety net given the amount of gravel on most country roads nowadays. On WOT it does seem to stop the front coming up but doesn't seem to make much odds in forward motion so that'll do.

The only bike I have with modes is the 1190 adv s. It has sport, street and rain. I used to use rain when it's a bit slippery as the throttle response can be a bit aggressive but as I've got used to it I use it less and less. I've only had the front ABS cut in once during a training day with the IAM at North Weald when we were hard braking from 70mph to a stop. I only felt it cut in once for a fraction of a second even though the bike was out braking pretty much all the other bikes according to the instructors. I imagine that it would cut in in the rain if I was clumsy but it isn't intrusive. The rear abs has cut in a couple of times in the wet. The traction control has cut in a few times on wet roads. Overall the systems are really excellent and not at all intrusive.

Sports mode all of the time apart from using Rain mode for mud or to get me to the petrol station as I'm running out of fuel. Road mode occasionally when I'm being really fickle and can't decide whether to use Sports or Rain.

I do for the first couple of weeks, more out of curiosity and novelty, to see how they differ, but then tend to stick it in Sports mode. If it's raining, I just ease of the throttle a bit. Ain't difficult.

I'm getting a bit pissed off with the Triumph Shift Assist, which negates the need for the clutch when going up and down. Being old and crusty, I'm used to shifting up with no clutch by applying a bit of pressure on the gear selector, then rolling off the throttle a wee bit. With TSA, as soon as there's even the slightest pressure, it shifts upbefore I've even had a chance to roll off even a bit. Makes changes jerky. I either turn it off or adapt. No decided yet.

The difference between 1 and 2 on mine is small, it'll wheelie about an inch (briefly) under hard acceleration in 1 and not at all in 2, with it off it's like riding a street fightered GSXR750, wheelies if you crack the throttle open in a low gear.

TC on mine is just too obtrusive.
On high setting it's like riding a 500. It's not dynamic. It seems preset.
Even on about 3 or 4 it cuts in when accelerating hard. Hot tyres on hot roads can handle all the power, thanks very much.
Never used it after first few rides.
My wrist is very experienced and better than most TC systems.
