Scroll forward to about 23 mins in... I wasn't on my best performance on Weds, operating on very little sleep thanks to a dose of strep throat. But I think I got the main points over.

Regarding the idea of improving the A-ratings, it was tried and failed because Knox vetoed it.

Several manufacturers went to BSI with their proposal for higher standards. The BSI committee met in January, requiring unanimous agreement to proceed. While the majority (16) of committee members supported higher safety standards, three members vetoed it (the two Knox representatives and the MCIA representative).

I’m appalled the industry sets its own standards, let alone that one company can veto any attempt to improve safety standards. It makes BSI look shoddy.

Knox we could probably guess, but I'd like to hear MCIA's explanation.

I did hear about Knox via 'a source' after the broadcast. I won't be considering Knox's products in the future.

The MCIA only ever acts in its own interests... not even in the interests of its members. It seems to be one of those organisations that exists simply to justify its own existence and to serve its own ends.

I've seen on several occasions how they have tried to 'own' bike training, trying to persuade bike schools on the one hand and government on the other that they are a safe pair of hands to ensure standards. Of course for the training school being 'quality assured' by the MCIA's training association comes at considerable cost.
