Sort of a what shall I buy thread?
I know scooters may be hard to get excited about, but bare with me. Due to me putting real motorcycling on the back burner until I get my physical issues sorted, I still want to have 2 wheels, so....
I've started to 2nd guess my 2023 Yamaha Xmax 300 techmax order, I've got a deposit down, but could probably easily get that back. It's a brand new model and not released and due until June, which in the UK is halfway through the riding season!!
Anyway, that's costing me £6500, I was going to do biggish deposit and finance the rest, only £60 odd a month, but a PCP.
I've seen a 2018 model in a local dealer for £3500, only 3500 miles and I think I'm right in saying that it should have the bluecore engine? That's essentially the same as the '23 model. Bodywork and tech stuff is the real difference.
I could with a bit of man maths, buy this without taking out any finance, all it will cost me is fuel, insurance and consumables. So I'm wondering whether I really need to pay almost double the price for a new model? Yes, it will have all the tech such as integral/ interactive digital dash etc, but I'm having a real wobble. It's basically going to be used as a run around and commuter the 10 or so miles to work during the week.
I'm crap at making these sorts of decisions.
Hmmm.

Never buy new, unless you're keeping it for a lifetime.

I always buy new. I like shiny things and don't want to buy other folk's problems.

Oh well, that scooter is gone. It's been there for ages so I didn't bother phoning them. Sold it yesterday !! That'll learn me.
So, on the hunt again, see if there's anything else about. I may well take the 'cheaper' route. I'll get a napkin out this afternoon to work out the man maths.

I do like the idea of a brand spanky new one. I've almost always bought bikes and cars 2nd hand, only 3 new vehicles ever, so it does hold appeal. BUT, I can't hide the fact it's potentially going to cost me a load more and tie me in to a PCP.
Quite like the idea of just being able to get shot of it if I need to.

While new things are nice, nothing is new for long. Recent age and low miles is the sensible way to go,but then again, buying a bike isn't always a sensible,or logic affair.

I have looked at the Forza, looks nice but is it Honda dull?
ahem, (whisper....my legs are a bit short, I think it'll be too tall) They're still very pricey, I have looked at the ADV350 mind you.
Would love one, but definitely out of my price range by some considerable margin, like not even the same continent !!

Right, just got back from the dealer. My Xmax Techmax has arrived. Ordered in Feb so I've had to be far more patient that I normally am.
Documents and paperwork sorted, registered to me, just need to sort insurance and then pick it up...But off to Goodwood FOS tomorrow morning for 4 days, so that's happening Monday.

Lots of them here. Ridden around town and over the mountain roads by the fearless from what I see. Enjoy!

Thanks for the offer, it's going to be a full on 4 days, well it normally is. Not sure the weather is going to play ball this year though which is unfortunate.Rockburner wrote: ↑Wed Jul 12, 2023 7:50 pmPop by for a cuppa tomorrow if you like.Nordboy wrote: ↑Wed Jul 12, 2023 3:12 pm Right, just got back from the dealer. Re: Sort of a what shall I buy thread?
From what I understand, this one is in the first batch of 300 Techmax's in the country. The basic version has been out for a while though. So, still going to be a bit rare for a while I hope.
