Old school, it even looks like you have to use a key to start it!

Bugger, even the manual i found for the Hypermotard has a different pic for the fork tops than yours but its the SP i think which comes with ohlins forks

https://www.manualslib.com/manual/19005 ... l?page=216

Can you wind up the preload in the electronics in each ride mode as they have 5 settings on multi in each ride mode from V soft/soft/medium/hard/v hard

Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: Wed Apr 19, 2023 8:28 pm I'm not, my Suzuki has 10mm of preload adjustment on the forks, I can't feel any difference between fully in and fully out, for reference my 35 year old FZ750 has 40mm of preload adjustment, you can feel the difference, but it isn't a big difference.
My SV650S has fork preload & if I ride it down a really bumpy road I can feel the difference between fully preloaded & the preload backed off.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but does'nt the air gap make a difference, especially if there's no preload adjustment?
Correct, putting more oil in reduces the amount of air at the top of the fork, this makes the forks stiffer, but they'll hydraulic lock if you put too much oil in (I know this from doing it with LC forks many years ago)

The best way to make the forks stiffer is to fit heavier springs, but other cheap arse methods are available, like using gear oil to replace the fork oil, or making your own preload adjusters out of tube.

Don't do the gear oil thing, fortunately it wasn't my idea or me that got injured.

16 litres should last 120-130 miles unless it's really thirsty. Mine has a 17 litre tank and I usually get over a 140 easy, I've had 170 before and still only put in something like 15 odd litres. On mine the range never says more than 145 miles but will often not move for a while. Equally I'll leave the house with say 100 miles and it'll drop to 80 miles within 5 but then not move for a while. The light comes on pretty early, freaked me out the first time as ended up doing 15 miles with the light on but when I filled up it only took about 14 litres.

I'd be tempted to do the fuel can thing if it's really OTT with the light.

Measure the loaded sag (you on the bike) before you start changing anything. You need to know which direction to go.

The can might be a good idea as one guy just told me he ran out and filled it up and it only took 14.7 litres, so it seems there is a lot of fuel in the tank that isn't usable, iyswim? Conversely, the guy below wasn't exactly riding slowly and got 147.4 out of a tank.

I think you can get little alloy petrol bottles that hold about a litre, so I'll get one of those to carry about until I'm sure it'll do what I need every time?

I think i'd be more likely to spend money on a remap than suspension mods tbh. I can live with the suspension as it is, but the fuelling i'd like improved. All this assumes i'm keeping the bike which in reality is unlikley!

It's only an issue if you let it be... i had a 990Superduke that would throw the light on at 70 miles.... you'd do well to get 100 out of a tank... so i didn't try :D

I like to fill up every other day and at my local Tesco which is pay at the pump. It'll be pain to have to stop and queue at other garages. Its just what you get used to doing I suppose?

At the weekend i'd put a 20L can in the car, fill that up and then you've got 4L to throw in each evening to top it up, you'd then get your usual 2 days and not have to re-fill more than your usual number.

When I do the Iron-man camera bike, I put 2 x 1litre pop bottles of fuel in the tank bag :D

I have a 20l Jerry can and 2 x 5l cans in garage to fill all the bikes.

Hopefully I'll be able to get it remapped. I certainly don't want to get rid of it, even if it is a royal PITA around town.

Took it down the back roads on the way home, which were surprisingly empty! Christ this thing has some mid range punch! :D I cant go round corners very well on it :wtf: I was kinda point and squirting it and encouraging a bit of front wheel lift. You can feel the electrics dampen off the power and I was in sports mode! I can adjust the amount it kicks in by, but I'm not ready for that yet. I've not really tried to wheelie anything since probably my CCM, but I'm clearly weighting the bars now as I twist the bars when it lifts, which means I'll land into a tankslapper if I get too enthusiastic! :?

The bike really is a hoot though. So easy to get round anything as its so grunty! There's a long hill near me and I love screaming up there. I was almost hitting 90 going up there tonight and it was still pulling!

I don't like these Diablo Rosso tyres. They seem to track and hug white lines etc. Maybe they're just grippy, or maybe its just the steering geometry, but I don't feel confident on it? It's also a very short wheelbase and you're really on top of the bars, so that probably doesn't help either?

That said, I like the bike so much I'll stick with it. If I wasn't so enamoured with it, the fuelling and shite tank range would have seen it gone by now, but there's something about this bike that makes me forgive it anything?
