15 Minute Cities
Has this been discussed yet?
Building area's where you should be able to do all your shopping within a 15 minute walk of each shop and limiting you as to where you are allowed to shop.
Basically the way i see it is that they are just trying to inflict more control, locking us into our city areas and making us pay or even banning the ability to shop elsewhere away from your home town/city, just like they are doing with the city tax!
Is this yet another avenue for them to use to ban cars and motorbikes as you will not be able to drive or park in the 15 minute cities!
What's your thoughts?

Re: 15 Minute Cities
For most of human history you could walk, or you could persuade an animal to walk for you.
Seemed to work alright.
I don't see how this is some kind of coercive control.

Re: 15 Minute Cities
The idea isn't to limit you to only the areas within 15 minutes of you, the idea is to make it possible for everyone in a city to have access to vital resources such as shops and green spaces within 15 minutes of them.Greenman wrote: ↑Tue Apr 18, 2023 12:27 pm Has this been discussed yet?

But is the idea Viable. I think the idea can only become viable if cars and motorbikes and any other such modes of transport are no longer in use.JamJar wrote: ↑Tue Apr 18, 2023 1:01 pmThe idea isn't to limit you to only the areas within 15 minutes of you, the idea is to make it possible for everyone in a city to have access to vital resources such as shops and green spaces within 15 minutes of them.Greenman wrote: ↑Tue Apr 18, 2023 12:27 pm Has this been discussed yet?

Most cities that have already done this or who are in the process of doing so have used most of the local car parks etc to build the green spaces. There would literally be no-where to park, it will have to be walk or cycle, not even buses as where would they put the public transport bus lanes and stops if the infrastructure was demolished and used for other uses such as green spaces and extra shops?
Would the shops also all be chain shops? i recon they would - physical versions of amazon etc! I suspect the property prices within the 15 minute area and tendering process would totally alienate the local shop owner, i can't see the tories giving funding or extra priority to local independently run businesses?

The plan / idea to make money from them, issuing passes to travel and fines for exceeding the maximum amount of visits / journeys

Re: 15 Minute Cities
This being the case, how would you do a big shop?
Would you be expected to do 5 trips with just 2 bags of food to make sure you can get it all home, what if you wanted to take advantage of any offer in a store for a 55" tv, would ride it back on your electric scooter? Or would you be forced to do all such shopping online, hmmm, i wonder!

Re: 15 Minute Cities
The difference is you will be restricted as to where you could shop and would have to pay to shop in 15 minute cities/areas that are not yours, i think!

Re: 15 Minute Cities
Nowhere in the article does it say anything even remotely like that.
Re: 15 Minute Cities
It's one of the things those that are opposed to it say will happen, some think it is a left wing conspiracy to limit people's freedoms.

Re: 15 Minute Cities
They did on the news last night. You would be restricted to just your area, just like the city tax, move into the area that is restricted and you get a fine, apparently.weeksy wrote: ↑Tue Apr 18, 2023 2:04 pmNowhere in the article does it say anything even remotely like that.
