You won't be jealous when a giant from Kazakhstan breaks his anoos.
That said, it looks like a cracking trip. Good for TC

Re: Silk and Siberia
Whilst very happy he's going, I'd talked to him about joining, but this year is too soon!! Gutted!
But also, so very excited to watch the ride (by FB!) and enjoy it from afar!!
(Even though the 'grown ups' here were very dismissive of the route - cos, y'a know, danger!!! LOL LOL Obviously I'm not as grown up as the others my age )

Re: Silk and Siberia
Its been a long time coming and his plans have been hit with covid lockdowns, travel restrictions, health and last but not least the Ukranian war. Another one who is a tad jealous and will be following his progress

I am seriously jealous. Good luck TC, and I hope it is as good as it sounds.

Worth checking the FB feed. I think there's a lesson to be learned about buying KTMs.

Re: Silk and Siberia
Good choice I reckon. If I'd been doin that trip i think the T7 would have been my choice from the outset. I love KTMs but haven't been able to trust them to get me to London and back reliably. No way in hell would I have undertaken that sort of trip on one!

Re: Silk and Siberia
I’d have gone for the earlier Tenere with the 660 single basic old donk engine, strong frame, easy maintenance, 300 mile range and well proven as an overlander that will run forever even on shit fuel.

Any news of TC since his setback? AFAIK he hasn't updated his Faceberk page.

I'm glad it was something easy to fix. Is TC on the road now?

Not going to plan.Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Tue May 02, 2023 2:25 pm I'm glad it was something easy to fix. Is TC on the road now?
"Silk and Siberia is cancelled. Struggled here with ongoing satnav problems, last resort downloading Garmin City Navigator maps to see if the unit works with those. However they do not do a map set for my device for Central Asia, so whether it's the maps or the Montana that's that, end of, finished, gone, not happening. I know there are other options but frankly I CBA any more, I've put thousands of manhours and thousands of £££ preparing for this and it's just been one thing after another. I have reached the stage where I just don't want to do it any more.
Still, it looks like a nice little city here and I'm in a proper central 4* hotel costing peanuts. Think I'll stay another day
If the new maps do cure the problem all is not lost. I can always continue the plan I made in 2019 when a former satnav crapped out on me, and head down the Adriatic coast. Might even make it to Sicily and Malta this time".
