Legalities of using a petrol powered propelled vacuum cleaner on the pavement

I've to deliver a petrol powered propelled leaf vacuum blower to the Isle of Wight*. It occurred to me that to save on ferry fares I could take it on as luggage as a foot passenger. That led me to idly speculating whether it'd be legal to use it on the pavement or road. It looks like I have the correct category of driving licence, k -pedestrian controlled vehicle. Insurance would be a consideration.

*I'll be using a van for part of the journey.

Solved: print off an IoW council logo, apply to rear of dirty hiviz jacket. You will be invisible.

I've got the grubby hi-viz already, trousers, jacket and hat. It's being delivered to somewhere in Cowes.

If you put a ferry company logo on it, not only would they let you on, they wouldn't need to see a ticket.. You may have to hoover a boat though..

It's very easy to blend in as deck crew, all you have to do is stand next to a genuine one and give contradictory instructions.

there again, theres usually only the two of us.

It's not what the law classes it as, it's what the ferry company classes it as. They'll take one look, tell you it's a commercial vehicle and charge as much as a van.
Definately don't try it with Red Funnel, they couldn't imagine it was possible to get four people in a Transit and refused point blank so I can't see you doing much better with no people in it.

What's the speed limit on it? Can you call it a mobility scooter, then they have to bend over backwards for you.

I can walk faster, with my feet tied together. It does about 1mph, it's almost difficult walking that slowly behind it.
