Aprilia rs250

Post by Bowman »

I've owned this for the last 14 years.
It was bought from my nephew in 2009. It had been used and abused and then just left in a damp garage for 5 years.
Mechanicaly it was sound but had been crashed twice before it came to me.
In 2010 it was cleaned, wheels etc powder coated and was brought up to a certain standard. Both myself and my lad have been using it for trackdays since then but another off has seen it off the road for the last few years.
Yesterday was the finish of the latest refresh and fitting of the Chinese fairing kit. The kits really are good value and are 95% of the factory fit. It made sense to fit it as even damaged the original fairing is getting both scarce and expensive. I have a slight problem with the tank at the moment but working on it.

It's lovely to look at, but it's got the RGV250 engine which is incredibly fussy to get jetted right

The Chinese fairings really are astonishing value. Everything lined up perfectly.

I always remember back in late 1998 my mate unpacking a crate that contained a brand new Aprilia 250 in Chesterfield colours.
He had bought it for a support series in the BSB championship,or ACU championship, whatever was the name of the top national chamiohsip back then.
The bike was obviously perfect & I said that it'll never look that good again.Cue the first meeting at Oulton Park & someone took out his front wheel at the top of clay hill  Bike cartwheeled into the barriers & various Aprilia parts were scattered around Clay hill...

Fabulous little bikes. I regret not picking one up when prices were cheap in the early noughties. The Alitalia paint job is ace, as are the Biaggi race numbers.

The prices have gone through the roof at the moment. I could never sell this, lots of sentiment involved. Hopefully in my old age I'll still be using it for trackdays and bumbling around the pits. That's the plan.

Gonna be a busy year when the weather breaks...
Doesn't one of them have an XR650 engine in it, iirc?

Yeah. This one. If you listen carefully, you can just about hear it.
I thought they were ring ding than that ;)
