Results from qualifying for the opening round of the Bennetts Superbike Championship at Silverstone.

After an incident-filled qualifying it was Tommy Bridewell who took pole position honours ahead of the sprint race at a sunny Silverstone, as the 2023 championship got under way.

The BeerMonster Ducati rider revelled in the dry track time following his move over from the Oxford Products outfit and immediately looked at comfortable, taking no time at all to ease his way into the session then attack the National layout for a pole position time of 52.931s.

Kyle Ryde had dipped under the lap record in the morning FP3 session with a time of 52.953s, so knew he was capable of a time to best the #46.

The man from Mansfield was always near the top of the timeshhets as his times over the weekend suggested he would be - the #77 also topped the first session of the weekend on Friday.

Pushing hard to find those tenths on his final run he saw the front end fold at Brooklands, leaving him in the gravel, but having already done enough for second on the grid for LAMI OMG Yamaha, just 0.028s behind the pole time.

The session saw a red flag for an engine issue which saw Storm Stacey’s Starline Racing Kawasaki aflame, leading the rider to jump off for a quick exit.

Results from race one, round one opening the 2023 Bennetts Superbike Championship at Silverstone.

Kyle Ryde got his season of to the best possible start with victory in the Saturday sprint race around Silverstone’s National Circuit.

The LAMI OMG Yamaha rider had been on race pace form all weekend, and although he didn’t claim pole earlier in the day he proved his prowess around the track when he delivered a new lap record in FP3.

The battle for first was fierce over the opening laps with Tommy Bridewell , Ryde and Jason O’Halloran all having stints out front.

The Australian spent the longest leading the train over the line before the #77 made his move.

Ryde had tried all the lines in rehearsal behind and worked out what worked best, while not afraid to get his elbows out to stay in contention. Tyres conserved, when he made his move on the Yamaha with three laps left he made it stick, soaking up the pressure and taking the full 18 points on offer following the points allocation changes this season.

It was polesitter Bridewell who kept the pressure on in the closing moments of the race. Pushing all the way the BeerMonster Ducati rider was not quite able to get close enough to make a final lunge for the win, finishing just 0.436s behind.

Little Johnny Garness starting from the back of the talent cup grid, was a sight to watch. I reckon he'd have won that,if the race hadn't been flagged.

I was pleased to see Josh Brookes looking like himself after years of misery and Tommy Bridewell seems a happy bunny too. I had my doubts about him leaving Oxford Ducati.

A good day's racing.

I just can't get excited about this layout.
No challenging fast flowing corners.
I did it once, and even though i was getting paid plenty, I refused to go back.

I did FF most of race.
Doubt I'll watch tmrw

Lee Johnston held off Luke Stapleford to take the first Sprint race win of the year in a lights to flag victory.

From pole, the Ashcourt Racing rider took the lead at the start and was able to fend off numerous attempts to pass from his rival, to eventually take the win by 0.222secs.

Tom Booth-Amos, who has been a constant frontrunner all weekend so far, took third, beating Australia’s Tom Toparis as Jamie Perrin was fifth.

In the GP2 class, Joe Collier took the win as he crossed the line 12th overall. Second went to Cameron Fraser who finished 15th, just one spot ahead of Harry Rowlings.

Alex Olsen took the first win of the season as he held off Franco Bourne in the first Superstock battle of the weekend.

Olsen took the lead on lap eight and was able to build himself a comfortable buffer of around half a second which he managed to stretch to 0.825secs by the chequered flag.

Bourne was second as Billy McConnell fought through from the second row to finish third. Polesitter Dan Linfoot had to settle for fourth, just ahead of Richard Kerr in fifth.

Results from race two, round one of the 2023 Bennetts Superbike Championship at Silverstone.

A very sunny Silverstone saw Josh Brookes take the race two win under red flag conditions as the first round of the championship brought more excitement.

The first few laps saw the same kind of lead swapping the sprint race brought, with Kyle Ryde the early leader.

His wider line left him compromised with Tommy Bridewell having a stint at the front before Josh Brookes took over, initially pulling out a small gap for the first time in the race.

That was not to last and as the penultimate lap approached the Red of the Ducati was all over the Australians rear wheel, ready to make a move.

It was not to be as a late fall for Danny Buchan from eighth brought out the red flag, with the bike coming all the way back to the edge of the track. Buchan was aided away from the track on foot with the marshals.

The FHO Racing BMW was ahead when the flag waved, brining the #25 his 55th BSB win in just his second race in 2023 after a barren spell at Ducati - it is his first win since Brands Hatch 2020.

Bridewell was unlucky not to be able to act out his race winning plans in second, showing the PBM Ducati also has what it takes to feature at the pointy end this season, only 0.094s behind Brookes.

The BeerMonster team had plenty to celebrate with Glenn Irwin taking the final podium spot.

Kyle Ryde got his season of to the best possible start with victory in the Saturday sprint race around Silverstone’s National Circuit but couldn’t back that up with another rostrum visit despite his pole start.

Wide lines to maintain his speed did not pay off, allowing rivals to nip underneath the #77. Ryde fought back at turn one repeatedly but ran out of time to move back ahead when the red flag arrived, leaving the LAMI OMG Yamaha rider fourth.

With Irwin and Ryde making a real race for the final podium spot, O’Halloran lost a little ground in the closing stages to bring the McAMS Yamaha home in fifth. Speed was not the issue - his best lap should see him take pole for the final race of the weekend.

There was frantic work on the 91 bike on the grid before Leon Haslam got under way in race two. His Rokit BMW Motorrad was working fine in race conditions as he claimed sixth, clear of the riders behind.

They were lead over the line by Jack Kennedy, who had impressed on his first race as he begins his first full season, finishing seventh. The Mar-Train Yamaha rider took his front row start and tried to stay in the mix, which me managed for the early laps on his way to another seventh placed finish.

Danny Kent was a distant eighth for his Lovell Kent Racing Honda team, just keeping Honda’s Andrew Irwin at bay as the race came to a premature close.

A much improved Lee Jackson was again the top placing Kawasaki for Cheshire holdings, this time squeezing out a top ten finish.

Twins Tom and Tim Neave spent much of the duration together on track, only split by a fading Ryan Vickers, who has wrist pain on the second LAMI OMG Yamaha, leaving him twelfth. Tom was the best of the brothers in eleventh for Honda, with the McAMS Yamaha 13th.

The final points on offer went to Luke Mossey in 14th for Tactix Lloyd and Jones BMW, with Josh Owens 15th (Crendon Honda by Hawk Racing).

A race to forget for Peter Hickman

Peter Hickman was eleventh in the sprint, but race two was a real race to forget for the BMW man.

The #60 slipped off on his out lap in morning warm-up at Luffield. Though he was unhurt, his bike was sent flipping and looked decidedly second-hand after the impact.

FHO Racing fixed up the BMW before race two and altered the calliper pistons looking for the solution to the strange crash - but he pulled into pit lane during the warm-up laps.

Back out in time to be a part of the race, there was clearly still an issue - the bike was slowing. Not wanting to be a danger to others on track Hickman pulled into the pits. As a real team player, despite his issues, he made sure he was the first to congratulate his teammate on the race win.

Charlie Nesbitt appeared to hit the back of Christian Iddon, who was also having a tough weekend. That contact took the duo out of the race.

Liam Delves and Jack Scott also failed to finish before the final fall of Buchan ended the race.

There was one rider absent from the grid. Following his practice crash Luke Hopkins was diagnosed with a broken arm, dislocated finger and concussion so played no further part in the race weekend.

Championship Standings

It is very early days in the championship, but already close in the overall standings. Both Josh Brookes and Tommy Bridewell have 32 points, with Brookes placed first thanks to his race win.

Kyle Ryde is only two points behind in third, with Glenn Irwin fourth on 25 points and Jason O’Halloran fifth on 23.

2023 British Superbikes Silverstone Race Results (3)

Image

Results from race three, round one of the 2023 Bennetts Superbike Championship at Silverstone.

This time the thirty laps were completed, with Glenn Irwin the third different winner of the weekend as race three brought the first British Superbike race weekend to a close at Silverstone.

The weather may have cooled but the racing didn’t - Irwin did not have instant impact. Early leader Josh Brookes took over at the front almost immediately while the Ducati rider again went the wrong way from the start.

A second row start meant there was less places to make up, and the close competitive racing at the front meant the #2 bike could pick his way forward from six as the lead changed hands.

Hitting the front after taking over from Danny Kent on lap eighteen, Irwin tried to pull out a gap on the PBM, but behind Brookes and Bridewell could see his plan and moved in behind, removing the defecit.

Irwin held on to lead over the line - the third different rider and manufacturer to take the top spot at Silverstone as he claimed a tenth career BSB win.

Brookes continued his renaissance at FHO BMW Motorrad, his new home seemingly suitiing the Australian former champion as he secured his 150th podium appearance, just 0.120s away from another victory.

Bridewell had begun the race with work to do - a ride through the pack was needed from eighth on the grid. Picking off his rivals looked effortless as he soon arrived in the frantic lead group for some more solid points - a rostrum visit coming in every race this weekend.

Jason O’Halloran started from pole. Having been there or there abouts his results have been consistent but not able to find that extra for the win. Race three was no different as he faded back to fourth, just over a second behind the leader for McAMS Yamaha.

It's odd how we gel with different riders; I've always liked Brookes, but I also liked Stoner.

It's got to be good for the series to bring down the running costs,I knew that the 600's were really expensive to run,but 5k engine rebuilds every other meetingI  That's a lot of £££'s over the season

Weirdly i've always liked Brookes, just because of how he rides... i was shocked to see how shit he was in last couple of years and once again, i was shocked to see how awesome he was this weekend. It bodes well for the season, even if he's not 100% on the pace every weekend, it shows he's still got some speed.

Just finished watching Sunday's racing today. Top entertainment in all classes.

The beemer commuter bike thing was good value, shame for local lad Nikki Coates getting black flagged,he looked set for a podium at least.

The Talent Cup is a brilliant watch too,Johhny Garness not being allowed to bugger off at the front this time.

Lee Johnson went well in supersport, another Irish rider Reece Irwin giving him a run for his money. It's a pity Lee Johnson is only doing a few rounds,as his focus is the roads. Not bad to be winning when you're only there to get your eye in!

Franco Bourne looks like one to watch in the superstock.

Great to Jack Kennedy showing form on the superbikes,I always thought he was a class act in the 600s.

I never took to Brookes either then met him at a PR event and turns out he is was one of the nicest blokes you could meet. Very friendly and answered all my stupid questions and talked me through all the buttons and functions on the race bike. Ended up talking to him for ages and out of all the riders there he was the most interesting and engaging ..... strange how outside perceptions can be so different

I caught up with all the BSB action today and really enjoyed the racing. The track layout helps keep things together as nobody can really bugger off which helped some over the course of the weekend. The pass or be passed action in all the classes was good to watch and its unusual to be such a close battle in the superbike class but good to see Brookes, Ryde, Haslam, find their mojo again and mix it with the front runners from last season. Paul Bird must be thanking whoever he sold his soul to as the Ducatis worked very well at a track they don't normally show well at

Really chuffed for Lee Johnson as i have been following him for a while now and thought his racing days could be over due to health problems last year but he has come back superbly with a well put together team and looked in control in a difficult class although Tom Booth Amos bringing some of the SSP300 "rubbing is racing" riding style to the party could make things interesting

Ironically the only class where the front 3 fucked off at the front was the F900 Bimmer race where its all meant to be even playing field. I guess some entries are more even than others but having a 7 stone whippet like Cooper riding it helps
