Beggars belief

Post by wull »

Tbh I’m not surprised but for ages I’ve been whinging about the absolute dire running of the Motoamerica racing series and in general motorcycling racing in America, it’s piss poor.

But this takes the biscuit, the footage is from the Wera round at Roebling Park Raceway in Georgia.

That’s beyond scary, as far as I know the rider walked away absolutely fine from that but fook me that could have been much worse.

I’ve watched Motoamerica for years back when it was AMA as well and in recent years it’s become so apparent that it’s an absolute shit show, it’s terrible.

P.s

I’m finding more out, so there was a bike behind the camera bike who tried to go to the right of the Ambulance and clipped it, bike ended up in flames but don’t know anything about the rider, I think somehow he might be ok.

I have had precisely two such incidents except on the road so really, don't do that kiddies.

Not that you can do it these days. First time was on my spanky new RD500 along the A303. On a high speed section, I remember it being down a hill with a rise ahead. About a mile, half a mile of dead straight good visibility. Good enough for me to see a van U turning up ahead. I don't remember what happened but there was no chance of stopping and I (obviously) didn't hit it.

The other occasion was on some dual carriageway to/from Amersham. Another high speed (i.e. flat out) section on a FireBlade. Zero traffic. Except I crested a rise to find a car doing a U turn. Funny thing is, I can picture it now but for the life of me, can't remember what happened next. I must have swerved I guess.

Both times those things come up at you FAST! You get into a zone where everything seems so slow but then a brick wall is right there in the blink of an eye. What is interesting is not how amazing I am but more about that "snapshot". That moment when you think "Oh fuck! You idiot!" and I don't mean the other guy... It really stays with you. Burned into your memory, probably some deep psychological survival mechanism.

Typically after "an incident" I'll stop. Sit down for a fag and wait for the shaking to stop. Man those days were intense! Long gone now with the advent of so many scameras.

I feel for those guys. Nerves of steel and balls of cast iron no doubt but there will be some deep seated part of their subconscious that will NEVER let that moment go...

A fucking ambulance on a race track. FFS that driver should go to jail.
