BSB RD 1 - Silverstone

Post by wull »

Finally the BSB season opener is here at Silverstone this weekend. That’s the weekend viewing sorted.

Not sure what to expect, don’t think much can be taken from any preseason testing but it does look as if Kyle Ryde will be a force to be reckoned with. He did the same last season though then kind of fell away.

Hopefully Kyle can get his head right this season as he tests well then the results fade.

It will also be interesting to see if the complete change in PBM staff can show results on the Ducati after last season’s disaster. O’Halloran will be avoiding black cats and ladders all summer after his last 2 years luck

There's been a lot of changes on seats,I hope Iddon does well on the Oxford bike.
Listening to a podcast earlier with Witham, they were saying that Andy Irwin's done loads of laps pre-season on that Blade.
I'm looking forward to seeing how the BMW's go,from what I've read in the past Brookes is really good at feedback, hopefully they'll finally get the bike working consistently.
Roll on the new season,I'll be at Oulton Park in a few weeks

From the off,BSB is very hard to predict. There are plenty of hot/cold boys who all can win on their day,or not.

Sky box is set anyway.

Testing has shown Brookes has gelled with BMW. Or maybe it's because he's out of the toxic pit created by the spoilt chicken child, and he's rediscovered his mojo.

However, testing is testing, racing is where it matters.

I thought Birdy had mellowed and had stood by Brookes despite his poor results. Not the case?

Birdy slagged off JB and TS saying they didn't turn up at most races.

You'd wonder why he kept Brookes on year after year,if he thought he wasn't trying.

Worried about him winning the championship for another team?

Any promising new young guns to look out for?
I'll be shouting for Tommy Bridewell as he's a Devizes boy.

I'm not bothered where they're from & when you listen to them on podcasts they usualy come across as good blokes, not sure about some of the team managers though..
McAms held their pre season launch just up the road (Ormskirk) & having owned a few Yamaha's over the years they're my favourite brand, but I don't know any of the team so I don't feel any connection.

Kyle Ryde set the pace as the Bennetts British Superbike Championship kicked off the 2023 season in the sunshine at Silverstone; firing the LAMI OMG Racing Yamaha to the top of the times as just 0.955s covered the top 20 contenders.

Ryde held the edge by 0.120s over Tommy Bridewell who surged into second on the BeerMonster Ducati in the final five minutes of the session with Andrew Irwin also improving his time in the closing stages to complete the top three.

Leon Haslam had moved to the top of the times with five minutes remaining but he dropped to fourth at the chequered flag with the last lap improvements from his rivals. Danny Buchan had also featured at the top of the timing screens during the earlier stages of the session and he completed the top five for SYNETIQ BMW.

Jason O'Halloran led the McAMS Yamaha riders in sixth place, heading off Peter Hickman who led the charge for FHO Racing BMW Motorrad. There was almost nothing between Hickman and Jack Kennedy with just 0.001s separating the pair at the chequered flag.

Glenn Irwin on the second BeerMonster Ducati and Ryan Vickers on the LAMI OMG Racing Yamaha completed the top ten riders, with the top 20 covered by just 0.955s.

Top 20 less than a second between them. Top 10 covered by half a second. Should be close racing.

That's pretty decent from Haslam as he's not long ago announced the team, so I assume not had much time on it

Haslam even more impressive.

As for the chicken manchild blaming his results last year on the riders not turning up, I'm not surprised. Such a toxic team, as Brookes has shown by going to a team that appreciates him.

Jason O'Halloran launched his McAMS Yamaha to the top of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship free practice times as the 2023 season kicked off at Silverstone today.

The McAMS Yamaha rider toppled previous Champion Leon Haslam from the top by 0.040s in an incredibly close opening day, which ended with the top 22 riders covered by just 0.959s as tomorrow’s eBay Qualifying and Bennetts BikeSocial Sprint Race beckons.

O’Halloran set the benchmark time in the closing stages of the second session ahead of Haslam, but Kyle Ryde was also consistently pushing his rivals and he completed the top three for the defending title-winners, LAMI OMG Racing Yamaha.

Josh Brookes made it both previous Bennetts BSB Champions inside the top four as he led the FHO Racing BMW Motorrad charge after the opening two free practice sessions, narrowly ahead of Christian Iddon on the Oxford Products Racing Ducati.

Glenn Irwin was the fastest of the BeerMonster Ducatis in sixth place just ahead of his teammate Tommy Bridewell, but just 0.050s separated the pair at the chequered flag.

Danny Buchan missed out on splitting the teammates by just 0.006s to finish eighth fastest for SYNETIQ BMW, ahead of Honda Racing UK’s Andrew Irwin, who crashed unhurt in the afternoon session at Maggotts.

Jack Kennedy rounded out the top ten with a positive opening day for the Mar-Train Yamaha team to lead the Support Class Champions ahead of Danny Kent and Peter Hickman, who completed the top 12 riders progressing directly into tomorrow’s eBay Qualifying 2 session.

Kyle Ryde dipped under the existing Bennetts British Superbike Championship lap record at Silverstone to top the final free practice session ahead of this afternoon’s eBay Qualifying and Bennetts BikeSocial Sprint Race.

Ryde maintained his position at the top of the times in the closing stages, heading off Glenn Irwin on the BeerMonster Ducati and Josh Brookes who completed the top three for the FHO Racing BMW Motorrad Team.

Jack Kennedy soared up the order to put the Mar-Train Yamaha into fourth place ahead of Peter Hickman who completed the top five. Ryan Vickers was sixth fastest, just edging out Danny Buchan and Luke Mossey. Danny Kent and Charlie Nesbitt completed the top ten.
