Recommended me a new bike...
I've been asked by boss and his boss to take on a new role at work, if the numbers are good it's a decent promotion and opportunity. It also means I'll be in the office a bit more than I am currently. 5 or 6 years ago I bought the MT09 and have used that to commute and evening/weekend hooliganism.
I fancy a change though, something lighter but not much less powerfull or fun and still able to do an hour on the motorway without arriving like a crippled 50 year old.
Initial thoughts are KTM 790/890. Budget is whatever I get for a 2014 MT09 plus a couple of grand.

I've lost the tenner I had on Mr Badger having been done in by his own roller starter.

Congrats on the promotion!
Is this to replace the MT, or as a fun toy (assuming the MT will stay as the commuter hack)

It's not a done deal yet with work, but they've not had success externally. Initially I declined the casual offer, but it's now come from further up the chain that they want me to take it.Rockburner wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 8:25 pm Congrats on the promotion!

MT09 will be going, I want to replace with something similar to commute an 80 mile round trip a few times a month and still be a hoot to ride.

Re: Recommended me a new bike...
Good to see you back matey, not that I've been here that much recently but am planning to be more now I've got some more bikey projects on
As for the replacement for the MT, I reckon 790 or 890 is an excellent shout, albeit maybe I'm biased as I've had a 790 and two 890s, but I've had lots of others to compare them to as well- although they are of course 2 rather than 3 cyl, very similar in character to the CP3 motor IMO, the main difference is they feel ( and I think are) a lot lighter and smaller, which makes them just one of the funnest roadbikes you can have IMO whilst still being well capable of comfy commuting and long trips
Great electronics and overall package, and you can get cruise control on them too - if you haven't had a bike with it yet, don't scoff until you have

And the closest, it's only in Bracknell. I'm going over there Saturday.

Re: Recommended me a new bike...
I went to look at the 890. Lovely bike, perfect size wise. Dunno if I want to buy it though...the MT09 is fine and covers the commuting and weekend fun. I've still got an itch to scratch for a road registered twinshock trials bike for a bit of green laning so I'm now looking at Bultacos, Ossas and Fantics. N+1 and all that...

Re: Recommended me a new bike...
Just got an email to say the 890 I went to look at has sold. So...who knows about twinshock trail bikes then? Talk to me.

Local dealer had this in stock. His own bike, full restoration, V5, road registered, historic vehicle status. Deposit taken, he'll deliver it in a week or so.
