Lexus LC500
I keep coming back to looking at these of late. I'm tempted. You're only middle aged once. I suspect they're a nice car to drive and the stance is good, even if the rear end looks dodgy and the interiors horrendous. I'd get a used one and the 5 litre V8, fuck all that hybrid bollocks.
And I'd hope to run it on a shoestring as I'm dead tight and scrottagy.
What do you think? Fuel, insurance and tax aside, fairly cheap to run? And are there any better options? I'd prefer a new shape NSX but they're not cheap.

Re: Lexus LC500
I've been looking at RC300H's, they look pretty smart.
They say the V8 is betterer of course.
V8 or not the thing that is killing all Lexus' for me are the interiors.
Noise and go are fun, but being some place nice wins out in the end.
I compare everything to my R231 SL. It may be an older 2014 car, but it has a nicer inside than anything I've sat in lately... and I'm actively searching for a new motor, I've been in A7's, C class coupes, Jags and came very close to buying a BMW 530e (for the hybrid bollocks). I can't find anything even close to feeling as special as the SL.
So if you want a V8, buy an SL63.

Re: Lexus LC500
I suspect the Lexuses may actually be quite nice if you go and sit in one, they just don't photograph well. The LC has some nasty interior colours but with the right colours it could be decent.
I hear what you're saying about the Mercs but they don't really appeal. And I worry they'll go wrong and cost a lot to keep going. It's a good thought though. I don't think I'm specifically after a V8, I like Japanese cars and the rear wheel arches on the LC.

Re: Lexus LC500
If you were a proper jap car fan, you be insisting on something with and RB26DETT.
I know a fella down on his luck with an R34 GTR sat in his garage. He was an importer and it's quite special, needs 10k to get it back on the road, then it would be worth 70k!
I remember looking at them 20 years ago when you could get a nice one for £30k.
So with that in mind, you want a newer GTR, but they aint V8's.
I think I need to own a V8 before petrol becomes a thing of the past.

Re: Lexus LC500
I've had a Lexus for the last 25 years.
Reliable
Comfortable
Real life quick, rather than specn quick
Good for mega miles if serviced properly.
No idea about the LC500, I had an IS200, followed by the current IS300h. The 500 is too rich for my wallet.

Re: Lexus LC500
I love the current LC500. They're a proper old NA V8 too, no bit fat turbos and down sizing here!
I'd still have an SL instead mind you

Re: Lexus LC500
The GTR is a cracking shout. I don't think you'd lose much one one of those. I'm looking at them with interest now. They might be a bit sporty for me, I really just want something that's Japanese, nice to drive and looks a bit different.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Sun Mar 19, 2023 9:53 pm If you were a proper jap car fan, you be insisting on something with and RB26DETT.

The price of good R34s is nuts. That said, I remember looking at old NSXs when you could get one for 20 and they're three times that now.

The LC is too rich for me too... but if you bought an early one, I think it'd probably only drop about £5k a year and when you put it like that, they're a bit of a bargain.

Re: Lexus LC500
I was going to buy an RX300, but it would actually cost more to run than a TDV8 Rangie. And when I checked the mileage, it had had a couple o haircuts.
RX400H are still a bit on the expensive side.
I would like a hybrid Lexus as nobody does hybrids as well as Toyota.

Now you’re talking, the cost of the RB26 is just ridiculous.

I keep coming back to this idea. Although I'm not sure whether the hybrid or the petrol V8 would be better. The hybrid is quieter and there's not much difference in speed. And it's not a fast car, nor would I be getting it to go fast.

Re: Lexus LC500
One of the parents at Baby Ds school has an LC500 now. White with red interior.
It reminds me of the CB1000R in a weird way, in that you might think of it as a dull Japanese vehicle, but when you see it IRL everything about it seems very premium.

Some lad at Sunday badminton had one and it went wrong a lot.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Fri Feb 09, 2024 8:29 pm I'd rather be saving the planet in an i8 (or not saving the planet in an R8).
It also had 225s on the back which looked pretty weak.
I did just look at the i8 again and the doors are pretty sweet.

Re: Lexus LC500
If you go for the hybrid, and it is less than 10 years old, make sure it has a full dealer service history. Up to 10 years you get the battery guaranteed for an extra year with the (expensive) service.MyLittleStudPony wrote: ↑Fri Feb 09, 2024 8:24 pm I keep coming back to this idea. Re: Lexus LC500
I jokingly sent my wife this link (she wants to swap the SL for something a bit newer)...
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-detail ... 2066278806
She's decided she wants one. In fact she liked it so much she said if we hadn't just bought a kitchen, she'd have driven over and bought it tomorrow.

Re: Lexus LC500
Ford - 6 years old and 50k miles?
The engine will be fine, the body you can check, but the gearbox & back axle would worry me.

The S550 Mustangs are almost proper car, they've got multi link rear suspension rather than leaf springs.Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Sat Feb 10, 2024 6:22 pm Ford - 6 years old and 50k miles?

It probably won't be that one, but she's set her little heart on one now.
