My back. I herniated a disc a few years back. Had a big ol' injection into the back and I fair skipped out of the hospital. However, Captain Age occasionally likes to remind me that I'm not as mendable as I once was.

Today is one of those days. Circuit class this morning, doing 'rockets', which are innocuous enough, when all of a sudden...POP! There she blows. Fucking agony.

Currently sat in my home office having taken ibuprofen and co-codamol, with an ice pack on my lower back. Pain down the front of my left leg, so I know it's impacting the sciatic nerve. Fuck-sticks.

If it gets worse I'm crying off sick and necking a few Tramadol. Away with the fairies for the rest of the afternoon.
All aboard the Peckham Pigeon! All aboard!

My ringtone is 'Reveille'. Having a fairly strident ringtone is useful when I call myself because I can't find the fuckin' mobile phone.

I've three ring tones, Run Chicken Run by Link Wray as the main one, La Ronde des Lutins for my wife and a klaxon for the Coastguard. All lound enough to hear over machinery or when buried in waterproofs. I rarely give my real number to people, and only then to people I trust only to call when necessary.

Bought a watch (from official store on Amazons). 6 weeks later the crown unscrews and drops orf. Yeah ok I could prolly thread lock it but ffs why should I? Out of Amazon returns window so it's a warranty claim. Except the warranty returns process to manufacturer is so convoluted I'm considering not bothering. Presumably they do that on purpose. :(

Check sale of goods act, or whatever the latest version is called.

'Fit for purpose', etc. A retailer can't arbitrarily abdicate their obligations.

Oh they're not avoiding it, just making it a pain. I have a low hassle threshold....

Worth knowing:

Where a repair or replacement is claimed, the trader must do this at no cost to the consumer, within a reasonable time and without causing significant inconvenience.

Only if it's a UK retailer (not sure about EU now) and even then I wouldn't expect much.

Thick tourists.
Ended up in Peurto del Carmen as had to find a chemist quickly.

Stood behind a fat chav from Liverpool. Had a very thick accent and hard to understand.
The lass trying to serve him didn't have a chance. I had trouble understanding him but gathered it was for his little kid in the pram outside.

After a minutes I told him that she hadn't a clue coz of his thick accent and told him to speak clearer.
He got angry and walked out. So his kiddy suffered.

I've got a strong accent but can speak clearer when needed.

We rarely go to PdC to avoid the clientele ;)

Mine is Monty Python's *Sit On My Face* song. The intro is just long enough to answer the phone before the singing starts which is handy sometimes... :)

This is why I avoid Santa Monica. The Last Outpost of the Empire, full of drunken scousers & geordies & that's on a good day.

I've been on the herbal/fruit teas since but have started having coffee again but not to the extent I had been, mid afternoon espresso is nice whilst in the garage pottering about and thinking what to do next.

Before that, I'd have three coffees in the morning easily and drink it all day, could easily do 10 or more a day.
I used to drink tea like that, but gurt big (pint) mugs full!! Thought I'd reduce when I gave up sugar in tea, but nope, got used to the taste and carried on chain drinking it in buckets!!

It's weird here as I don't think most places serve anything like a decent coffee - but maybe that's cos it's for fast turnover/tourist market. And most people drink it by the shot anyway, so probably don't care! Along with most people telling me that tea is better for me, but I'm sure I looked into that and found that tea has as much caffeine as coffee :o Tis why I went on the decaf - although I did stick with Yorkshire tea as it was the best tasting decaf I found!! LOL

Taipan wrote: Sat Feb 18, 2023 12:13 pm Sometimes I wish I liked coffee, but I'm not really keen on it. I used to like dunking cheese sandwiches in a cup of maxwell house when I was young, or a Cafe Carajillo after a meal when in Spain. But in the main, a proper brew of Yorkshire tea is my drink.
I'm teaching myself to drink coffee (in certain places) here, but now also trying to teach myself to drink said coffee without sugar :o :o :o

But I do miss a good cup of tea, but since I got back from rehab in July, I've had about 2 mugs of Yorkshire - it just doesn't taste the same anymore :( :( :(
Tea does have more caffine than coffee, but only by weight raw, not by cup !

Noggin wrote: Wed Mar 08, 2023 7:42 pm Probably getting done for proper speeding this morning :( :( :(

Totally my own fault. I know the camera is there and that the limit in the tunnel is 70kph

I got distracted. Was probably too tired to be driving anyway TBH, but I was driving to a course and had left resort at 5.45am - just before the tunnel I realised the was not much fuel in the minibus, so I was trying to find the bit of the display that gives an idea of how far the fuel will take me and then trying to work out the next possible quick pit stop point. As I realised I was doing 90kph, I also realised I had gone past the camera.

The only small hope I have is that I didn't see a flash. And that one is proper bright (probably cos its in a tunnel!!!) so I'm certain sure that I would have noticed the flash in the wing mirror. But I won't be sure for a few weeks :( :( :(

Stupid bloody woman!! Mind, at that speed, they'll do everything they can to help me exchange my licence :D
If it;s the one just outside Moutiers? Then you will not nessaceralily see the flash, I know this, because of..... reasons

I'll take it !

And now to why I've come here.....

People who don't know what they are doing giving me the run around

" it's your router mate "
30 minute drive to the valley, buy a router, 30 minute drive back, no change
"it's your livebox mate"
an hour to Albertville to pick up a fresh livebox from Orange, no change

" ohh look at that, it was our phone lines after all. The technician will repair it, but dont worry he won't even have to come inside the building" !!!

SWMBO and card shopping. She’s forgotten to get her mum a card so we’ve had to go into town and go to big Tesco’s as they have a larger selection of cards. This means FAR more deliberation time on something someone will put in a bin a week later.

Cards in general. Utterly fucking pointless bits of paper which go in the bin after a week!

Show you don't care more like. CBA to do anything meaningful, send something which takes less effort to produce than a bank statement instead.

Years ago we saw a George Michael tribute act. Didnt know he was going to be there, it was just a thing this restaurant did on fridays. Some fat bloke with quiffy hair, a biker jacket and mirrored sunglasses came out and started to sing and sounded nothing like GM. It seemed it was only me that found it side splitingly hilarious as everyone else loved him! :wtf:
