Looks oily. Any blue smoke while running or on start up? Could be just carbon and you've got a duff plug that wasn't allowing a clean burn. I'd run the new one for a bit and see what that looks like.

No blue smoke - coughing and banging - previously the down pipe was still cool after 30 seconds of running - might change the other three.(Edit will change!)
Fireblade forum says the near side plug sometimes fouls first.
CBR 900 with 34000.
Thanks Dern

Injection or carbs, if carbs check the float height on no.1 carb, when sat on the side stand the fuel runs into no.1 float bowl and can change the float height through pressure (it takes years for this to happen because the pressure is tiny)

Carbs - I might get the them looked at later in the year - it’s 28 years old and I doubt they’ve been touched .
Thanks cheesy

Could be running rich due to flooding. There has been a spate of gummed up carburettors due to ethanol in fuel and its something I have only seen in the last 12 months. I've had to fix bikes and petrol mowers and other small engines. Not always a solid deposit sometimes its a jelly like contamination which affects jets and float valves. I'm now using only E5 fuel and also adding ethanol shield fuel stabilizer on those that don't run regularly.

Might it be the coil / lead and can you swop them about to check?

It's decades since I've done anything like this.

Perhaps - The 90's FireBlades are rated to run on E10 according to Honda - I always try to top up with fresh BP super duper as often as I can and I put stabilizer in as well.

Its 1 coil to 2 plugs - The nearside plug is easy to get to without removing the tank and air-box - I think Cheesy is on the right path- The owners forum says something similar. It sprang to life with the new plug so hopefully its a partial fix until I get the carbs looked at

That's how I used to test for a missing spark, using hosepipe.

Had a mate, let's call him 5w, who had a similar issue with a 750 turbo, except he grabbed the downpipes after a ride.
Needed a fair bit of surgery after that, and his bike always smelt of bacon after a run.

I want to give this a like but it doesn’t seem appropriate…surprisingly hot exhaust after even seconds of running

Is it me, or does that gap look way too big?
