Used a hot air gun to heat bumper and pull our dent, realigned (hammered) brackets behind headlight and wing so they now align again, glue gun on the foglight bracket. All I need now is the surround for the DRL and its good to go again!

If you make it look too easy he'll not be too bothered about doing it again!

He's been in hiding at his dad's since it happened!
Think the plan is he's going to buy the car off of me so if he wrecks it it's his loss, otherwise he pays for a better repair.

Everyone has a shit-for-brains accident when they first start driving/riding.

Doing it the day after your test is pro level though.

Whole reason for buying it! I drive it to the railway station and leave there 99% of the time. Cheap and cheerful.

Today has been a day of win so far:

Idiots at the council have finally capitulated over the slates for the roof and we have eventually left the circle of doom of their making in respect of the supply of a sample. Miraculously after speaking to a grown up decision maker*, three new photos and an email or two, we don’t need to provide a physical sample from the pallet of slates actually being used and our choice have been signed off.

Window company is coming out next Monday to measure up and price for 5 conservation grade double glazed sliding sash windows, 2 casement windows, a set of French doors (again, conservation grade double glazed) and possibly a back door. We are buying directly from the factory so won’t be as arse rapingly expensive as using one of the big firms**

I have just scoffed a delightful bacon and cheese burger with hand cut fries made by my chef mate***. I need a nap now!

* it would appear the planning officer, who I have had a bad experience with previously, was exceeding her remit in terms of what the conservation dept wanted… I should have lodged a formal complaint after the first display of ineptitude but didn’t and all I want is my consent this time to get the work done so probably won’t bother this time.

** initial quote was 33% less than an online quote tool for items made in Lithuania imported by a UK distributor, same price as directly from Lithuania and 50% less than a local “specialist” joinery firm (all on supply only). The supply and fit mob are broadly double the cost of the local specialist firm…

*** he’s got a fully restored and recently fitted out 1967 Citroen HY catering truck for sale if anyone is interested. Ideal snack van for the @Docca clan ;) :D

Just how historic is this house?! I'm all for conservation but it does sound a bit :wtf:

(When we first rented a place in the Newcastle area we went up there on a weeks camping holiday at Seaton while we a place sorted. Having got a place sorted the owner invited us to come over and sign the agreements. Turned out she lived in an historic place linked to George Stephenson. https://twsitelines.info/SMR/4877 I can imagine them getting a bit pernickety about the tiles on that one. It was v nice and quite luxe inside so I'm a bit surprised it was turned into a school caretaker's house in 2002).

I have had the most entertaining & hilarious back & forth with some muppet on FB after he posted pics of his Rocket 3 with an EE Lightning painted on it & I suggested it would be improved by putting BSA badges on as they actually made a Lightning...& then his brother chimed in too.

Me: Now ya need to remove ALL trace of it being a Triumph & put BSA badges on it... seeing as both the Rocket 3 & the Lightning were BSA models.

3rd guy: An English Electric badge for the win!

R3: there's always one 🙈

R3 Brother: what on earth are you talking about? What has BSA got to do with a English electric lightning?

(I post a pic of a BSA Lightning)

R3: well I won't be swapping that for mine anytime soon....blimey!!! 🤣

Me: A65 Lightning 🙂 If I had your bike I'd definitely put BSA tank badges on it 🙂

R3 Brother: but it’s not a BSA???? it’s a triumph 🤯🤯🤯 why would you downgrade it ha ha like putting a ford badge on a Ferrari ha ha

Me: The original Rocket 3 was a BSA. (posts pic of BSA Rocket3)

R3: This was about an English jet fighter on my English bike!!! Most people have embraced it with positive comments!! as I have already said, there's always one!! Congratulations.

Me: Where have I said anything negative? The Triumph Trident & BSA Rocket 3 used the same engine, because at that point in time they were the same company... The difference was the BSA version had canted cylinders, which wasn't used on the Trident until the '75 T160V

Me: Ferrari's don't need downgrading, they're owned by Fiat...Ya can't get much lower 🙂

R3 Brother: Just struggling to her your point? So you say the trident and the bsa used the same engine? Well this bike has a 2500cc engine, I guarantee you they do not share the same engine, just scratching our heads as to why you said your comment? The picture was posted because it’s a English bike, with a English jet, and the bike has the jet painted onto it, the bike is called a rocket and well the lightning jet was like a rocket,,,,just don’t get why you say well if that was mine I would put a bsa badge on it

Me: I can explain it to you, I can't understand it for you. It's really not that difficult.

Me: Let me try again, for the THIRD time. 1) The ORIGINAL Rocket 3 was a BSA, not a Triumph. 2) BSA made a bike called a Lightning (Triumph didn't). 3) Therefore it would make more sense/be fitting to put BSA badges on the Triumph. 4) You can't tell the difference between 1970's BSA's & Triumphs & your one?? You think I said that BSA put your engine in the 1970s Rocket3?? It really shouldn't be this frigging difficult to comprehend. How old are you?

R3: Quite clearly your a pratt...that likes to piss people off...keep your childish comments to yourself ( changing the badge on my TRIUMPH) ...I just posted my bike with a Lightning on it!! which I'm proud of.. its more about the fantastic Jet than my bike!!! Get a grip you jobs worth...Nice to know the decent Lightning Folk on here, out weight the idiots....

Me: Piss people off? For suggesting a way to possibly further improve your bike? & you resort to name calling? Good grief.

Me: btw: *you're* hth 😉

R3 Brother: Rick you have just proved “you’re”self! No one likes a grammar checker! You tried to make a silly comment? No one but you got it, and you look like a plonker! Let me help you a bit okay and please just take the advice and go away, just because you thought something, doesn’t mean you should say it ok! You have had absolutely zero point? Made your (you’re)self look like a plonker for absolutely no reason! Just pipe down a bit okay and keep your silly sarcastic pointless comments to inside your brain, we all here for good intent, not to antagonise! All the best, leave it at that , all done! Wish you all the best

Me: Outstanding! LOL!!

Me: Btw, at least my bikes were made by an actual aircraft company 🙂

Grade 2 listed in a locally designated conservation area makes it sound almost unique but it is simply an 1850’s Victorian townhouse which was built for a ship’s captain and his family (interestingly the original deeds are in a lady’s name undoubtably as her husband would have been at sea on completion).

As for being of historical and architectural merit, it is one of several hundred similar properties in the city which are a mix of listed, listed in a conservation area and unlisted.

In terms of the Listed Building Consent… we may have ‘slightly’ taken the piss previously with having a Spanish slate roof installed to the front and UPVC doors and windows to the rear but this is no different than multiple examples in the same street and surrounding streets but we got hammered over.

Interestingly (or not), the enforcement officer came out because some arsehole (concerned citizen) reported us for repairing/replacing the rear elevation of the roof, on a like for like basis, with Eternit slates which the enforcement officer, after a bit of a chuntering, confirmed were suitable (like for like) but whilst on site he took exception to the windows and front elevation. I have my suspicions that English Heritage have been giving local authorities a hard time for doing the square root of fuck all in terms of compliance over the last 3 years and a harder line has been taken to secure funding… Cynical me? No never…!

I reckon had the skip and scaffolding at the front not been there, that part of the roof wouldn’t have been an issue…

Anyway, the LBC was granted last night with standard conditions, work must be commenced in next 3 years*, must match the submitted plans & drawings, minor material and non material changes are permitted but must be retrospectively consented and any substantive changes must be agreed before commencing.

* previous roof was fucked, gauge was wrong which meant the overlap was too small, slates on the cheeks of the dormer overlapped the slates on the roof of the dormer letting rainwater run behind them onto the felt behind, valleys had been incorrectly installed, flashings were too small etc which meant it all had to be ripped off and replaced.

**We don’t have three years left on the enforcement order, we have roughly 3 months left of the original 9 months. The LBC process has taken roughly 19 weeks of time with the council which I will use against them should we not be able to complete everything in the given time horizon.

Just had an interesting conversation. Well, the conversation wasn't! But, I was in the shower when the doorbell rang - I knew it was the post lady so hollared that I couldn't get to the door. When my leg was broken, she used to just come in (after ringing the bell!) and leave the post for me. So she did that!! LOL So, I'm sticking my head out the shower explaining that I'll leave the money at work tomorrow for the book that has arrived from the states!! LOL LOL

Proper chuckled to myself after she'd gone and I continued my shower

A couple from the top of the mountains today - I made it to the top of each of the three peaks out of my bit of resort. But I did kill my legs early due to nerves (different skis and just nervous!) and then the snow went slushy very early cos it's way too warm. So, I figured three hours was enough today!! LOL

Part way down from the Becoin -

This is kinda cool -

The Grande Rochette on the left, The Verdons second left, think the next is the Becoin! The Becoin chair doesn't go to the top of that mountain!! :)

The bits for the pressure washers arrived so they been rebuilt. They both seem to work but I've lent mine to a friend so i can test them under pressure.

The capacitor for the pillar drill has also arrived, I'll do that after a dish of tea.

Recovering from a hangover. We went out with half the estate last night and had a blast.
