Hypothetical thread; New bike time, but what should I buy?

Well, i went to view a Hypermotard today. I thought they looked good on the screen but in real life it was just stunning! I decided from 10 feet away that this was mine!

Sadly it all went downhill from there. I sat on it and it felt great, but as soon as I lifted my left foot to the gear shift side and tried changing gear, it was immediately obvious that I don't have the full movement required to change gear in a pain free way! Physio exercises have been working, as it was certainly better than when sat on the MT09, but still not good enough. I had to accept if it was painful lifting the gear lever up and down a few times whilst just sitting on it, it would be a nightmare on the road. The dealer couldn't have been more helpful. He got some tools and knocked it down a spline and I tried that, better, but still not right. I conceded defeat and thanked him for his time and rode home crestfallen to say the least.

By the time I got home, I'd hatched a plan to make it mine! I'll just buy it and keep it at home and start doing short rides, building myself up to it. Meanwhile I'll have at the physio, specifically targeting that area of movement. I'll pay to go privately to get the right exercises. Game on!

So, next step, insurance. I ring Bennetts but the underwriters wont do it. Despite offering multibike cover, they wont do it on a Tmax and Hyper on the same policy. So I need a separate policy for te Hyper and hope the underwriters will mirror my NCD. No, they wont. Full price second policy at £910. I finally accepted it isn't meant to be at this point.

So here she is, the prettiest bike I'll never own!

How tall are you and what was the fit like, I could just about paddle around the 950SMR (at 5ft7 on a good day).

Tis a stunner alright. Sitting on it and it felt like a xt660 size wise but it has 939cc of v twin in it waiting to hurtle you forwards, or upwards! ~

6'2 with 32" inseam. Bloke was surprised that I could put both feet flat on the floor as they are apparently very tall bikes.

I think some bikes are just greater theft targets and te Tmax is certainly one of them and the Duc must be upon there too I suppose? Might be my address too as I live in Basildon (twinned with Beirut) and some postcodes get loaded?

Exercise wise just sit there like an idiot doing gear changes constantly whilst watch the telly you'll be right in no time

When I lost the use of my hand after my off, people at work must have thought I was right special as I was constantly either forcing open my fingers with a laccy band round them, or twirling golf balls round my palm. Same after my ACL op going up and down the stairs at work and doing 1 legged squats.

Dont let it lapse. I did that inadvertently with my car insurance and paid dearly when I started insuring my own car again!

Its so frustrating. I could sell the Tmax and then buy the Hyper of course,and that solves the insurance problem, but that relies on me being able to sell the Tmax and him still having the Hyper. Also he is going to do the belts on it before its sold as they should be done every 5 years? So it wouldn't be ready straight away and I need a bike every day I'm working or I've a nightmare of a journey on trains. Even if that all came together I'm still not sure I can ride it. FFS! Tell you what though, I like the bike that much, I'm thinking a bit of determination and some ibuprofen and de job is jobbed as Gino D'Campo would say!

Dont let it lapse. I did that inadvertently with my car insurance and paid dearly when I started insuring my own car again!
