Who's best these days for big chains and locks?

Biker spawn is possibly taking their bike south soon and will need some security. There's no chance of it being garaged but there's a neighbour with a spare good ground anchor already installed.

Almax is my first thought but I'm likely out of date for these things as I've no need for them.

Can't fault Pragmasis. I have one of their 19mm chains and locks. Decent pricing and good service. I looked at Almax but they didn't have stock at the time.

I think as above it's either of those depending on what's available. I'd have no issues with either.

'we' used to have a small affiliation as Almax posted and Zanx tested their kit, so back in the VD days we had an association, but none of that exists now, so it's no biggy.

Before you buy owt make sure the chain will fit through the bike and ground anchor, if you're looking at Almax / Pragmis you need to recalibrate your brain as to what you consider a chain, picture the famous Brunel photo in your mind and you'd be on the money.

I've no complaints about my Ammax / Squire set up, it appears to be solid kit, but I'd only recommend it if you can go to the shop and collect in person.

WHat he said! I bought a 19mm ALmax and I can just about get it through the wheel on my Tmax, but I have to twist each link through. PITA, but 19mm is obviously better than a 16mm. Which, coincidentally, I have at work, albeit a pragmasis, chain, but its much easier to get through the alloy spokes.

S'why I mention it, I just got the biggest going because bigger is always better, fnarr, only to find that there's not a hope in hell it'll go though my wheel.

Having spent more money on chains and locks than I care to remember, spoke distance will now be a factor when it comes to buying another bike!

How long for? Is it worth getting the chain delivered direct, or courier down?

One other thing is to try and have the chain off the ground. A lot of Zanx's cropping relied on it being low.

The bigger chains, I think 16mm upwards, are basically uncroppable, according to the Pragmasis site. But leaving them on the ground makes them vulnerable to sledge hammer attacks and then, of course, any chain can be cut with an angle grinder.

Don't we have another thread on here somewhere on this subject?

From what I've read/seen angle grinders are the tools of the trade nowadays. They seem to worry less about being spotted and rely on being in groups of 3-4 to deter any interference

^^^^ That! When they came to my house for the XADV the first time there were 4 of them. They ran off to start with and I limped after them with great vigour! When I turned round and walked back to the house, they started following me back!
