You're lucky as it was going to be another Harley, as that would be good for some laughs and piss-taking, albeit on your side of things! But ultimately, a Harley wouldn't really suit my needs at present. So common sense has prevailed. A deposit has been paid and insurance switched over for tomorrow. I can't see anything changing now and by 1 pm tomorrow, I should be home on my trusty new steed. New bike thread to follow...

Back looking atthese again. I really want a Diavel but know it'll just be frustrating to comute on. So what can you tell me about Hypermotards, specifically the 821 such as this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/195608263994Taipan wrote: ↑Thu Jan 12, 2023 9:24 amIt was the original plan if the truth be told. But I love the SH300, as it really is a cracking commuter and having that allows me to have more interesting 2nd bike.v8-powered wrote: ↑Thu Jan 12, 2023 9:07 am Knowing your bike history, use etc I'd go for a TMax. Clear that you love the things more than Weeksy loves those orange tractors and deliberating over his next purchases!
Front runner is currently the Hypermotard. 2nd is a Diavel. 3rd place is vacant, but I'm starting to think about scratching the Guzzi itch!
How much is a belt service? Do they still peel engine casings like a spilt box of cornflakes? Anything else I should know? Its all hyperthetical but come summer I may want another bike, but at the moment I'm just fact finding!

I'll deffo be at least sitting on one, but hopefully test riding one before I buy. Mainly because my colleague called me a dick for worrying about vibes on a Tmax and replacing it with a Ducati twin!Skub wrote: ↑Sat Mar 11, 2023 11:07 amFrom memory, the pegs are quite high,if that's still a factor forya.Taipan wrote: ↑Sat Mar 11, 2023 10:41 am

I didn't think so. The bike is pretty tall though for sure.Skub wrote: ↑Sat Mar 11, 2023 11:07 amFrom memory,the pegs are quite high,if that's still a factor forya.Taipan wrote: ↑Sat Mar 11, 2023 10:41 am

I've been reading some more, but without any accuracy, it would appear the later models have more leg room? I've been working hard at my physio and I have a lot more movement in my leg for sure, but I think that only leaves me more concerned at the vibration levels?

Probably not for me then. I'll abandon the quest I think...Potter wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 6:17 amI don't know about the earlier ones, my memory is bad, but the latest one was quite focussed, I'm sure I did a review.
I don't remember any vibes, I'll have to go back and check my own review
I defo don't remember it as a relaxed and comfortable thing though, it wasn't uncomfortable but it was quite focussed and a hooning machine.

It was never going to be a gentle cruisey type ride though was it. It's whole ethos is a pseudo Moto. It won't be quite KTM supermoto type of fun, but it'll never be a leisurely pace bike.Taipan wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 9:14 amProbably not for me then. That said, I think that's as much the attitude of the rider as much as the bike. All bikes can cruise, all bikes can be nice easy Sunday mornings. But not if the rider unleashes the insanity within themselves

Re: Hypothetical thread; New bike time, but what should I buy?
My riding is different to a lot of people as for most of my journey I'm just riding round town and only using the first few gears. It why fuelling always becomes a bug bear for me. That style of bike is normally better for me as the legs are normally more stretched out compared to road bikes, iyswim?weeksy wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 9:17 amIt was never going to be a gentle cruisey type ride though was it. I was going to go for the one I linked to and ride it back to back with the Tmax to see which worked out best for me, but I'm not going to now. I really like the look of the Hyper and think I've just got a bad case of the "I wants"! The reality is I've no use for it as a toy, as I don't use bikes at weekends for honing about as my time is normally taken up with other things and if its not then we'll be away in the camper. It'd be a ridiculous amount of money sat on the drive to have that and the Tmax just to use as commuters and I couldn't justify that tomyself, or the wife! So I'lll stick with the Tmax for now and probably look at it again in April!

Weirdly, my GSXS 750 did it for me, the reality is that it's a Suzuki Teapot without a fairing, but it's good fun to ride, like a modern YPVS 350, good engine, average frame and suspension.Potter wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 10:18 amI don't know, didn't you say you absolutely loved your old SM style bike?
You may find it ends up being way more fun than you think.
I haven't had a bike that's done that for me for ages, but the Caterham reminded me how much fun you can have on the roads, I wish I'd bought one years ago, I reckon there are a few bikes/cars out there that can do that to people, you just have to find the right ones.

Re: Hypothetical thread; New bike time, but what should I buy?
Yes, I love SM style bikes. One of my favourites was a KTM 950SM, but it became too unreliable and had problems with the 690 Duke. I liked the XT660X too and that maybe a contender down the line, but I really like the look of the Hyper. Just not sure it'd be practical to chug round London in rush hour traffic on.Potter wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 10:18 amI don't know, didn't you say you absolutely loved your old SM style bike?

Re: Hypothetical thread; New bike time, but what should I buy?
I honestly think you have the right idea for you/ you needs with a super scoot. Everything else would be too much of a compromise, unless you have a big garage, all bike ownership tends to be some sort of compromise.
Is the TMAX just a bit 'big' for what you need? I know you've had a few smaller capacity scoots, but wouldn't going back to one of those be better (or obviously sticking with the tmax) ?

Re: Hypothetical thread; New bike time, but what should I buy?
No,not too big, they are quite an easy bike to chuck about. Its more the riding position. The bars are low and my knees hit them on tight turns. There also isn't much room for my legs in the outstretched position. The earlier mk1 and 2s had more leg room than this one. I guess I'm just not that comfortable on it, or as comfortable as I expected to be?Nordboy wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 12:05 pm I honestly think you have the right idea for you/ you needs with a super scoot. Re: The vibes, if its correct and they are all like that, its a bit awkward, as when I'm riding in the 50mph zone its right where its at its worse and can literally numb my fingers after a few miles of it. On a manual bike, you can ride around this easily by changing up and down, but on an auto you're stuck there.
So it's a bit disappointing in some ways. That said there is a lot going for it. The cruise control is brilliant. Didn't think I'd be such a fan of it, but I use it every ride, especially in the 50mph average speed zones, and then out on the open road. Brillaint. Heated seat is also a welcome surprise. I thought that was a gimmick, but no I use that most rides too. The OEM Yamaha heated grips are pretty useless though, but better than nothing. The electrically adjustable screen is good too, down in the city and up on the motorway. Again something I didn't think i'd use but I like the adjustability of it.

Re: Hypothetical thread; New bike time, but what should I buy?
The weekend was a struggle. I got really close to pulling the trigger on a Hyper! But, I decided I'll not run or have the expense of two bikes again, so I looked at some figures and got a p/x price. That would have seen me lose £2049 in 41 days so that wasn't going to happen!
I can sell privately and cut those losses dramatically, but I can't be wothout a bike as I need it for commuting. So its back to laying out more money and 2 insurance policies again and waiting for teh Tmax to sell. TBH I can do that, but I really just CBA dealing with more time wasters and revealing the location of the Tmax which is how I lost the XADV etc blah. So I have abandoned the idea.
Something that was bothering me about owning a Ducati is where the hell would i get it serviced? Turns out there is a well respected indy called MotoV not far from my daughters house! So it could be dropped off and serviced there and I could work from home at her place that day. So if I do go that route at a later date, thats good to know. Also, it looks like the ergonomics might suit me pretty well? But for now, the Tmax definitely stays.

You do know we've met you before yeah ?
That's almost as good as me saying "i'll buy a Firestorm and just use it whenever"
