Do you want your tax money used to provide a clean, safe and easily available conduit, for people from failed countries with despot leaders, failed economies and corrupt governments, to be able to access, free of charge, so that they can choose to move to the UK, whether they will benefit the UK people or not?

So far the only immigrants I've had working alongside me have been shuttering carpenters named Mario and Bogdan, both decent blokes, very skilled in their field and I was very happy to have em on site.

In the last few years, sitting a few metres away in the same office, I've had colleagues from India, France, Singapore, various African countries, Italy, Puerto Rico, Ireland.

Those are the ones that I can think of.

They will all have applied for their positions and earned them on merit. And been paid equally with British staff.

Pretty sure they were on more than me, meh. No worries from me as they knew more about shuttering than I do. I learned a bit from them and was happy to do so.

No one wants immigrants paid less for the same job, but jobs are priced by the market. More labour in the pool chasing that job, and the price goes down, or at least stays the same while inflation pushes costs up.

That was the 'merit' bit.

Definitely whatever qualifications & experience required.

FWIW I was interviewing recently with candidates from several countries, including the UK, Scandinavian, Asian and African.

Don't think so. Not great, but going rate for the industry or thereabouts.

Actually, not that simple for a lot of our work, hourly rates are capped via frameworks.
