I haven't listed to BBC radio since Simon Bates, DLT, Steve Wright and Peter Powell were on there!

I haven't owned a radio since the Postmaster General, one Anthony Wedgewood Benn (yeah that one) pulled the plug on Radio Caroline and the other pirate channels.

I have a load of them, from old valve stuff right up to DAB including a pukka communications receiver but t'internet has killed radio stone dead, nearly every station on the planet has online listening now.
I still remember the whole "Down-town 293" jingles form the early 80s, when people used wavelength instead of frequencies.

Doesn't have the same ring to it as the Buggles version.
As a pre-teen youth I loved my radio, but now the first thing I do in the car,if Mrs.Skub has been driving it,is turn the radio off! Anything with adverts is unbearable, which is why my tv viewing is always recorded.

Mrs. G has started listening to LBC. I scoffed at her lack of hipness for the first few weeks, but it's growing on me massively.

Can't say I disagree with that - but I think the main reason I listen to BBC-Radio is that I simply loathe the incessant adverts on every other radio source.
That being said, Planet Rock (workshop listening) is just about bearable on the advert front.

I pay £3 a month for advert free. I have it on 6 - 8 hours every day.Rockburner wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 11:04 amCan't say I disagree with that - but I think the main reason I listen to BBC-Radio is that I simply loathe the incessant adverts on every other radio source.

Absolute have the 'No repeat guarantee' between 9 - 5 every weekday, which is great, but the adverts grate me, as they repeat every bloody 10 minutes, it seems.

Then I'd have fewer things to get annoyed by, and I'm officially a grumpy old man.

Re: Ken Bruce....Will you miss him?
I'd be tempted to do that if I had an up-to-date radio in the workshop. Currently using an old Pure 'Bug' which is 'pre-bluetooth' so it's 'dumb' and isn't internet connected.Yorick wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 11:11 amI pay £3 a month for advert free. Use Spotify for most of the day when working in the study. (which I pay for)
