Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
Just booked flights to Palma and booked a nice hotel by the Marina & Old town for a week in May.
Its the first time me and Mrs GP have been abroad for a break without kids since our Honeymoon (25 yrs this year).
We've had weekend breaks and the odd trip to Cornwall but all all our Forays into Europe have been with the Kids.
I usually get away with mates on bikes and she usually gets away with her friends for "long weekends in the sun" so we thought it was about time we did one together before the calendar fills up!
(Got the Ducati Scrambler Hire sorted for a bit of an explore too..)

British week over there. Fill yer boots on Bangers and Mash, over-cooked veg and lumpy gravy.
I've often wondered, when the French market comes to my town for the weekend, if there's an reciprocal UK market in some obscure French town with some bloke shouting, 'Three tea-towels a pahnd!' to bemused French housewives.

^^^^ IME French markets in the smaller towns have all the lovely stuff, but also have just as much Tat (if not more) than any UK Market

The Tat Quotient© is off the scale if you venture into the French equivalent of the car boot sale; the Vide Grenier (empty attic).
There is no cloud, just somebody else's computer.

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
Seen similar in Italy. The locals' markets are filled with all sorts of delicious food and seemingly useless specialist stalls, like embroidery tat, along with used clothing stalls with rags that a war-time refugee would decline, being fought over by haggard old women. I heard one woman ask the stall holder, who looked like he'd picked the worst of his stock to dress in and had a roll up dangling from his mouth, 'Hai qualche Marks and Spencer?' (Do you have any Marks and Spencer?). Obviously a bit of second-hand M&S is held in high regard in the depths of southern Italy.
Bizarre, given how effortlessly stylish most Italian women generally seem to be.

We've seen some similar over on Fuertaventura. One stall had pots and pots of old Peseta coins. This review for a book on Amazon:
"This book was recommended to me as a good read . I have purchased it and it’s on my book shelf for reading once I have finished the two books I have to read at this time . Will review once I have read it ."
Well, thanks for that, Mandy.

The new big boss at work confirmed work from home is here to stay, I only need to go in for special occasions.
He's not keen on 4 day working weeks but with no commuting I don't think I'd want to try and cram 35 hours into 4 days, looks like 28 hours in 4 days isn't an option.

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
I was musing on this the other day..just to myself . I reckon 4 10ish hour days would do me fine. Or even two 4 days and two 5 days a week.
I might even propose it!

Remarkably you may recall once upon a time i was introduced to @Docca 's missus's mate...
Well remarkably and despite me being a serial GF swapper at the time....
That was apparently 18 years ago today !!!! Wowsers...
Obviously she's Mrs Weeksy now rather than the GF.
I'm not sure if she's celebrating or drowning her sorrows.

Putting on your coat and finding money and a cheque in the pockets. I paid at a restaurant recently and some people gave me cash , which I put in my coat pocket. Also got a DVLA cheque for the mt09 tax in there too, which i'd also forgotten about. Down the bank for me tomorrow!

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
This morning had a nice Hungarian couple come to see the apartment.
Seemed too good to be true, so he said he'd send a bank statement.
Just came through. Eye watering
Think we'll have them

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
Went into the garage to find a tape measure, in order to find out what length curtain pole I needed to buy, only to glance up and see the end of a curtain pole, still in it's packaging, that'd been tucked away for well over a decade*, 'just in case we ever need one'.
The bloody thing is only the right length and finish.
*It was an own-brand 'Homebase' one. Can't remember when they went belly up.

They were bought by that Aussie chain I don't recall the name of, then bought back right?
The one near me still has signs of said Aussies in the colour pallet used throughout the building.

Bunnings. And a right pig's ear they made of it too. (I think at one point in the past they were owned by WH Smiths too. It was a useful place but now it seems to be garden furniture, barbecues and Shabitat stuff.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Wed Mar 15, 2023 12:59 pm They were bought by that Aussie chain I don't recall the name of, then bought back right?
