Anything much faster would be silly on the road.
I used to own a TVR 350i, glorious sounding thing that at the time felt really quick but chances are my wife's Volvo SUV accelerates at a similar rate!

Works the other way too, many car owners don't appreciate how briskly even average bikes can accelerate. Even boring older BMWs can give many 'sporty' cars (not the '5 litre 'undreds of 'orsepower' types) a run for their money away from the lights. Quite amusing there when the driver does that double-take.
I used to love laying waste to just about everything on an old zx9r I had that looked tatty but had been fettled. Being heavy and long as well I would not only disappoint cars worth literally 100x off the line but much newer litre sports bikes too :mrgreen:
Never knew what had exactly had been done to that bike (was like it when I got it!) but replaced that bike with an R1 and it felt like going down to a 600! :wtf:

My E46 M3 was only £350 ish to insure, almost £100 cheaper than my 335i..
Better on fuel and cheaper tax too!

I think moststuff back in the day that was fast woud get outpaced by most modern 2 litre cars.
But at least you could mend the buggers!

Being an old git the insurance on my Alpina B5 is £232 FULLY COMP FOR A 500BHP Car. I have just replaed the rear discs at around £500 quid each theyre almost the diameter of the wheels. its the stopping Of a really fast car Thats crucialI. overtook a multistrada the other day on full chat he couldnt quite belive it but once its doing 50 on full torque Not much will stay with it and on that private road it will top out at mind bending real 198 mph its the only thing that comes clodSe to the ZZR14 Amusingly it really returns 32 MPG at 70-80mPH the motorway, as the supercharger weighs so little . a very clever trick IMO.Image Pic is only the tip of the impeller

it's goes like stink, and is pretty much glued to the road. Impressive, really impressive.
I worked in a place that did a load of tuning on GT-Rs, I've driven one with over 750bhp and although it was absolutely stupidly fast, you can't shake the feeling that all those microchips and pumps are doing all the work for you, that's not a criticism, it's more a tribute to the Nissan folk for making it drivable for us mortals. 700 bhp appears to be the point where the gearbox goes bang.

There was a Supra lying about that someone had thrown load of money at the engine, they had ditched the twin turbo set up and it just had a massive single turbo. It made 505bhp but was laggy as hell. It was on cheapo rubber too so it was a complete liability on anything but a bone dry day. It seems to change hands regularly and keeps popping up on eBay.

There was an Evo8 that made 600 at the crank. I had it home with me to get some miles on it before it was dynoed, it annihilated anything that had a go. If I'd had the cash, I'd have bought it.

One of the fastest feeling cars I had was a Citroen AX GT, only 95 bhp, but was made out of thinner metal than a Quality Street tin, so down the wee back roads it felt like a rocket.

I don't know how the Jag compares but it sounds like same power, and the most impressive thing for me was not the pull away but it's roll on stomp. At 50 with a lead foot it just went like fluck, and it did the same thing at 90, and a 110 and then I packed it in. Once rolling it was a monster for a 2 ton car.

The B5 has 133 ftlbs more torque than an m5 making the alpina appreciably quicker its a hoot

Those numbers are for the latest Alpina B5, with the next gen twin turbo V8 as used in loads of Beemers. Like lots of new engines that a "hot V" turbo with the exhausts on the inside of the V, rather than the more typical outside.

The latest 63 series of Mercs use the same set up on a 4 litre V8. A guy at work has the latest E63 with that engine, its got diesel like torque at the bottom end but It just keeps on going.

That spec sheet has docked the top speed by a few MPh cos it was originally 198 latest B5 with twin turbos does 206 or something like that but is 4wd and 602 bHP My b5 is rear wd only haha for £1500 you can add a LSD BY Quaif. All that torque at 3K rpm is what really puts the smile on your face :lol:

My (3l straight six, twin turbo) Beemer is like that, making peak torque from just over 2k rpm.

This year was the first MOT I've had on the 335i since I've had it (4th) where rear tyres were not an advisory or fail as I'm managing to get almost 6k out of a set of rears these days (as opposed to about 4k lol) 255/35/19s are pretty expensive!
