Chain adjustment bolt on the Tiger. Wasn't moving with a spanner so WD40'd it up, dropped the back wheel a bit and tried with a socket. Fuck me if it didn't just snap easy as anything.

Any thoughts on how to get this bad boy out? Can't really get access to the bloody thing.

I've taken the left hand side one out for good measure to make sure it's copper slipped up when it goes back, but I'm kinda fucked here.

At least to get you back on the road, you could get a thread extender. It's like a very long nut and you can put the two parts back together.

This shouldn't be that hard to get out though. Try the 'bofa' trick. You need two nuts, tighten bofa deez nuts against each other and use that as the bolt head. Of they won't grip, that can be welded up.
Suggest application of lots of heat to the swingarm when you try to turn it out.

Tigers are famous for this.

The swing arm has an open void which the bolt passes into, the bit of the bolt you can't see then corrodes inside the void.

You either have to regularly take them out and coperslip them, or seal up the void so the damp can't get in. You can see the huge holes on the inside of the swing arm when you take the rear wheel out.

You could probably get some penetrating fluid to the bolt through the void, get at it from both sides so to speak. Then double nut it.

Double nut trick didn't work.

In fact, I think I may have cross treaded it and fucked what remains on the bolt.

I think I'll have to run up the white flag and try to nurse it to my local bike shop and let them get down and dirty on it. If I do the rear axle up right enough and ride like I'm carrying baby twins I reckon I can get there without dying.

Today I've had the Midas-in-reverse touch. Everything I have touched has turned to a steaming pile of poo. Should have stayed in bed.

I'd just tap that round and out with a punch, while smoking an Old Holbourn roll-up.

Superglue the head back on, put it all back together tight and then trade it in ASAP for a nice Honda or something with a shaft.

If you've fecked the remaining thread then you've nothing to lose with a pair of mole grips, some proper penetrating fluid (not wd40) and some heat. It's all the garage will do. It'll either come out or it'll break. If it breaks you will just drill it out, and tap it for an insert. Heat the bolt though, not the swing arm if it's aluminium. You could also try and apply a shock down the length using a drift.

If you haven't then get a thread extender as suggested above but I wouldn't bother using the broken bolt head, I'd just used the a long enough thread extender to get a good portion of it on the thread and lock it with a nut. The threaded part will no longer need to rotate in and out and you'll be able to adjust with the thread extender.

As the thread's gone a bolt extractor might get it out. They've always worked well for me, I've had an Irwin set for years.

Even if you've fucked the thread, you can probably restore it with a die. My approach would be that, plus the two nuts, lots of Plus Gas, leave it then heat it up and see if it'll come out with a ring spanner on one of the nuts.

Although there does look like limited space to get the die on it.

Weld a nut on the end. The welding will likely break any corrosion. Then just ratchet it out

That'll be : Buy a welder, weld a nut on it, shear the nut off because of poor welding, repeat ad tedium, then take it to the garage.

Or take it to a competent welder.

Other options are available.

£30 fix.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185763145008

(tape the holes up before fitting, and fill the voids with plusgas before trying to remove the adjuster bolts)

I'd have a put a lock nut against the thread extender unless you're only going down the road. You could probably just wind the one to the other end as what's left of the bolt is seized.
