Anyone here work with Hp or Dell laptops?

Any idea why the new models being released are a complete pile of turd?

Mainly HP 255 G7's - They wont work on Epson projectors, they are slow, keep crashing, wireless drops off about 10 times a day, power from usb ports poor so will not run IWB without extra thick shielded cables, the issues go on and on.

HP say they are not aware of any issues lol. I am currently working with Epson who are writing me some new firmware so i can use the HP laptops on some of their older projectors.

Anyone getting similar issues. All running W10 1909 with latest drivers etc.

Never had a problem with HP.
My Elitebook Folio 1020 G1 that is a works issue never misses a beat, nor did the old HP that it replaced.

Daughters HP ENVY 13 gets a little toasty when she's running the Adobe suite, Photoshop etc, but again hasn't given us any problems

We've just had a shipment of Dell 3000 series go out with German Keyboards. Dell's fault.

We've sold about £4m worth of laptops (mainly Dell) in to Education in the last three months, other than the keyboards and Dell sales people not knowing how to provision AutoPilot on the orders it's all been fine.

No one uses Epson projectors in education anymore, Epson are shitting it. I had to sit through a event where they were promoting the new lasers that you could customise the aspect ratio on. It was their one killer feature. Everyone is moving to Interactive panels these days.

I used Dell for a long time in work. I was fortunate enough to buy my last desktop system from them before I left. Fairly quick system.

back on topic. We ran lots of Dell laptops. the 3000 series were the last lot we rolled out. Minimal hassles, just made sure they were all up to date on BIOs. Only projector is used in the Kitchen for Movie Night and occasional really big staff meetings which are now history!

We’re a dell partner and the min spec I buy now, just to run windows, is i5, 8GB, 256gb ssd.

Can't make my mind up

I'd like an XPS13, they're best in class, but a grand for the base model is out of my budget (we don't do staff discounts, not that I'd get much more than £30 off).

Yeah, decent kit isn’t cheap. I’ve got a 3 yr old 12.5” i5 5520 with 16gb and a 1tb ssd. It still runs really well but I’m getting itchy for a change. Trouble is, I like the old style docking stations which mine just drops into whether i’m working at home or at the office.

I got my wife a refurb Lenovo x1 carbon i7: 8BG, 250gb ssd which runs reallly well and is lovely and thin/light. Trouble is I struggle with the island keyboard.

It's probably got another 10 years life left in it, but I've convinced the wife it's about to expire.

In recent years I've found most laptops to be very slow, they seem to love putting low power processors in to make the battery last longer (probably cheaper too). We have Dell business laptops at work which are terrible for anything more than basic stuff, I managed to pinch an Alienware (also Dell) from marketing and it's a world of difference even though single thread turbo doesn't work.
Processor labelling isn't reliable, an i5 processor can mean wildly different things and you need to check details before buying.

We shift a fair number of HP laptops to a few specific corporates every week and have been for the last couple of years- never seen any of these sorts of issues, albeit the models we supply are usually 640/650 probooks, and we image them before they go out, so I guess this isn't that much help really, but must be something specific to either that actual model or the build

Yep most are replacing with Smart Panels, but some schools don't have the money and i need to continue to work with the old crappy projectors...

Either.

I initially thought it was a dodgy build but i also got one of the HP's out of the box and used the factory setting which also gave issues.

Epson have accepted that the issue with sizing on the IWB's is a compatibility issue, and there is nothing that can be done, but HP can't seem to resolve the wireless issue. It might be due to the wireless systems being fairly old, who knows, Aruba aren't about any more so there is no support!
