We use Lidl for milk, Greek yoghurt and widest range of beer.

Lidl, Tesco and Morrisons 10 minutes walk from home. Never go to Tesco, just too expensive and I don't like shopping there. Mostly in Lidl and occasionally Morrisons. Aldi is 15 minutes drive away. Sainsburys 10 minutes drive. Waitrose in Greenwich, used to have excellent single malt, but that is no longer available. Local Turkish Food Store has excellent fresh flat breads and hummus. Some good whole foods and pastas as well. So pick and mix for a nice varied diet. Prices in all of them have rocketed though.

I've been reading about a fruit and veg shortage in the UK, adverse weather in Spain and North Africa seems to be getting the blame. People here are wondering what adverse weather?

An interesting bit at the end of a BBC article:

"The main impact of new border procedures for fruit and vegetable imports will not be felt until January 2024 - while imports from Morocco, which is outside the EU, are already subject to border checks"

So things are very likely to get worse next year?

I was in a big Asda on Saturday, shelves were fully stocked, I was in a small Tesco yesterday, stocks were down but there were empty spots.

Having read about all the tomato issues in the UK, I did a bit of digging around and discovered that Germany is the 3rd largest exporter of tommies to Bulgaria. That came as a bit of a surprise, given that Germany is the world's 2nd largest importer of tommies, so I had a look at a packet of tommies in Lidl. Sure enough, imported from Germany, but produced in Valencia, Spain. Which means they're grown in the south-west corner of Europe, transported to northern Europe for packaging, then transported to the south east corner of Europe to be sold in German supermarkets That must make them Europe's most environmentally unfriendly tommies.
All the more ridiculous when you consider that Bulgaria borders Turkey and Greece, who both produce shitloads of tommies with an import price approx half of those German (but really Spanish) tommies, while Bulgaria produces enough to satisfy 40% of its domestic demand.
