Flashing ISOs onto USB sticks

Post by Ant »

I've used the same USB stick to flash an ISO for Linux for my laptop, but I want to write another one, but now the flashing is failing. I have heard of a few flash issues in the past where the USB stick just becomes useless, but using other software I'm able to reformat and allocate the drive space again to use for stuff but can't flash another ISO onto it.

I'm using balenaEtcher to do the ISOs.

Short of cocking up any more USB drives or having further flashes failing, what ought I do now?

Thanks.

I just tried Rufus which worked, so not sure why balenaEtcher which worked the first time, wouldn't the other.

So now onto trying Linux on the Linx tablet pc thing. I did put Chrome on it, but not being able to dim the screen was a bug bear. I'm running ubuntu from the USB stick and so far everything works fine.

I've a vague memory of it having to be a specific type of formatting for Linux ISOs. Ext4?

It's vague as it's been a while since I did one, that was Zorin Linux.
