Tenere
Went to buy some gloves today and ended up sat on a Tenere. Thought it was a great size, not a million miles off the drz but heavier but felt way smaller than the 1190. Anyone got one and could share their thoughts on it? Any good on road? Any good off road if you’re not an off road god? Cheers

Re: Tenere
I'd not want to get too adventurous off road with a bike nearly 260kgs. Picking that up would get old very quickly. A local lad has one and he likes it as a road bike.

Re: Tenere
I think the 1190 is about 240 kg wet and the Tenere is about 205 kg wet but yeah neither are light and my leg hurt like fuck for weeks when I dropped the KTM on it.

Jesus H Christ on a motorcycle.
But not that one.
257kg for an off-road bike? Are they out of their minds?

If they can build a 200 bhp sports machine weighing about 200 Kgs. Why can't they make a sensible weight big traily?mangocrazy wrote: ↑Sat Feb 11, 2023 5:12 pmJesus H Christ on a motorcycle.

Because the people who ride them really want a touring bike but are worried about what people will think of them.

Re: Tenere
Yeah, that's always been my beef. The technology exists to make lightweight big bikes of all types, so why isn't it being used?

But surely they'd save money by not adding the lead weights?Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Sat Feb 11, 2023 5:32 pm Because the people who ride them really want a touring bike but are worried about what people will think of them.

Re: Tenere
As a kid I had a GT750. Heavy fucker. 217 Kgs.
And CB900. 207 Kgs.
WTF do these things weigh half a ton more?

Re: Tenere
I'm having trouble parsing that. My 1150GS was a great touring bike, 2-up, good luggage capacity, go nearly anywhere, my K12GT was a good touring bike, 2-up, good luggage capacity but don't go anywhere the roads aren't particularly good, my K12LT was a good touring bike, 2-up, good luggage capacity but don't go anywhere that's not like a billiard table.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Sat Feb 11, 2023 5:32 pm Because the people who ride them really want a touring bike but are worried about what people will think of them.
Sorry, what was your point again?
Not sure I worried about 'what people will think' with any of them. It's never really been on my list of requirements when buying a bike. What do you worry about when people see you on your Suzuki?

All the cats and other eco gubbins are weighty items, but it's not the whole story.

Re: Tenere
I've not ridden one but if you want to lose a bit of time on YouTube there's a channel called Nomad Sweden that's worth a watch - the guy's been running a T7 all over Europe on and off road for a couple of years. He switched to it from a GS.

Re: Tenere
There's an element of all the safety gubbins and pollution stuff, however I'm convinced bikes are heavier because people have become heavier; two heavier people on a bike means beefier build, and two heavier people with luggage = even beefier build.Yorick wrote: ↑Sat Feb 11, 2023 5:18 pmIf they can build a 200 bhp sports machine weighing about 200 Kgs. The last thing manufacturers want is some Jabba the Hut complaining on social media that the bike broke under him/her.
